mrksteK: is "make -j 60" intended for scribus port? it kills my laptop :-)02:27
*** dru1d has joined #crux02:27
teKmrks: I knew I forgot to take it out. Sorry!02:27
teKinitially I tried with -j which means no limit.02:27
mrkshehe, no problem :-)02:27
teKTHIS kill a Quadcore with 4GB RAM, too *G*02:28
mrksit compiles with -j 2 now02:28
teKabout 100 cc1plus processes seem to be too much. Additionally I compiled on a tmpfs :>02:28

brosI am trying to install CRUX Linux. lspci says I have an Intel ICH8 SATA controller, and an Intel PIIX4 IDE controller. My disk is recognized as /dev/sda1, meaning it is SATA. I have to build my kernel during installation, copy it to /boot, then create a lilo configuration file and run lilo. I build support for both Intel drivers built in to the kernel, and everything goes fine. On reboot, the kernel can not find my root partiti14:24
*** gcov has quit IRC14:26
*** tri has joined #crux14:33
euwbros: do not build you sata drivers into kernel as modules14:41
broseuw: They are not built in as modules. I have module support disabled, and no initrd. Should I submit this to the mailing list, or is it user error? I already typed up the e-mail. :P
jaegerbros: did you use libata drivers only or both libata and the old pata stuff?14:44
jaegerin other words, "ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support" disabled and "Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers" enabled? or both enabled? or something else entirely14:45
euwjaeger: trying to sort out libgnomeui here. woundering if you have seen this before make[2]: *** [gtkfilesystemgio.lo] Error 114:45
brosSerial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers > ATA SFF support > Intel ESB, ICH, PIIX3, PIIX4 PATA/SATA support14:45
brosjaeger: I did try both enabled. That is probably a problem.14:46
*** tri has quit IRC14:46
euwbros: do not enable the old drivers14:46
jaegerbros: I highly recommend you entirely disable the "ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support" one as the libata drivers can handle both14:46
jaegereuw: that particular part of the error isn't useful, need to see the rest of it leading up to that14:47
brosI entirely disabled the ATA/ATAPI/MFM/RLL support and solely enabled Serial ATA drivers14:47
jaegereuw: with that said, the gnome ports are pretty out of date currently, unless you're using trunk14:47
jaegereuw: line 3 is more important, see the missing include file?14:48
*** tri has joined #crux14:50
jaegerbros: I can paste or send you a working config from one of my virtualbox installs if you think it would help, or paste a screenshot of the relevant kernel config screen14:51
euwjaeger: hmm missing from gtk-2.14.7.. perhaps no longer included14:52
brosjaeger: I would like to find the error directly. I run: make allnoconfig, make menuconfig, enable PCI support, enable SATA new driver support and my Intel driver, ext2 partition support, and that is it. Am I missing something big14:52
jaegereuw: I can't remember off the top of my head, unfortunately14:52
jaegerbros: hrmm, maybe block device support?14:53
brosjaeger: I do have block device support off. Let me try this again14:54
jaegereuw: If I remember right there's some GIO/gvfs/gtk separation that's gone on that could be the problem14:54
jaegerheyo, tri14:54
jaegerI've just finished a sysup on a virtualbox image for building gnome, ironically14:55
brosCould the error be in my lilo.conf
jaegerlooks ok to me, though I admit I've not used lilo in a long time14:57
jaegerassuming sda1 is the proper partition14:58
euwjaeger: hehe14:58
euwbros: aslong as boots on sda1 that seems about right14:58
euwroot is sda1 sorry14:59
brosKernel paniced again: please append a correct root, here are the available partitions: sr0 driver: sr Kernel panic unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(8,1)14:59
jaegerwell, that's a good start, it can't see sda at all15:00
jaegeronly sr (cdrom)15:00

brosjaeger: What else can I do?15:07
cptnbros: you said that the ISO kernel boots, so you can compare the configurations15:08
broscptn: Where can I fix the ISO kernel configuration?15:09
cptnyou can find it here:;a=blob;f=kernel/linux-;h=e938bd6835e93f2726cb4a85441ea582cca9aa44;hb=fac52e4b36bafb39191d3b994b7153ee0278a0e315:11
cptnit's also copied to /usr/src/linux-... during installation15:11
jaegerbros: here's another for comparison:
brosDo you think ISA support is causing this problem?15:18
jaegerI doubt it15:18
brosDo I need to include SCSI low level drivers?15:20
cptnhave you checked jaeger's config?15:23
brosNo, I did not. Thank you. I am currently in the ISO configuration.15:23
jaegeryou'll need SCSI disk and CDROM support for the libata drivers but not SCSI low level drivers15:24
*** Rotwang has quit IRC15:24
brosAnother failed attempt. I guess my minimal ways are the problem and it is not a bug, just my stupid personal preference.15:29
brosLOL. I turned off the virtualbox sata controller, mounted the disk as IDE primary master, and it worked perfectly.15:36
brosI am in my installation with my minimal kernel. If I want to use IDE only, should I use the ATA/RMM/IDE drivers or the new SATA drivers?15:36
euwthe former15:36
euwjaeger: seems gtkfilesystem.h is defined in gtk-2.12 :)15:37
*** Rotwang has joined #crux15:37

broseuw: Then I run into a problem. Due to some other problem, the ISO kernel crashes VirtualBox when loading the IDE drivers. If I use the ATA/ATAPI drivers, my drive is recognized as /dev/hda, not sda, but when I try to run lilo on the installation kernel, it complains that hda does not exist, because it does not. But when I boot my compiled kernel with the ATA drivers, the drive is hda15:52
euweuw: try with SATA drivers and boot with no=ide15:57
