SamvaraI just had a try running crux 2.5 in VirtualBox on Ubuntu, it gets as far as " * Loading modules... IDE" and then dies03:24
Samvaraany ideas?03:24
teK_works for me like a charm03:28
jarteK_: it works for me like a computer binary03:29
teK_:)03:29
jarive had no luck running charms03:29
teK_I use the PIIX4 Controller03:30
SamvaraBooting with "CRUX noide" seems to get past the crash point, up to a login prompt (but not useful without hard drive). I have it set to PIIX3 controller.03:33
SamvaraHmmm, thanks for that PIIX4 works better... weird03:35
teK_np03:40
SamvaraMaybe add a note to http://crux.nu/Main/Handbook2-5#ntoc10 in the IDE hardware compat list03:46

teK_in the kernel configuration?03:58

SamvaraOK, looks like I'm off to a good start... I'm only compiling on my netbook (atom 1.66) under vitrualbox so might get back to that tomorrow. Hopefully once the VB system is running, I can make an installer for a 512M flash card and see how it goes on the old soekris board. Won't be needing any build stuff on the soekris, nor any X11 so that should fit (fingers crossed)04:08
teK_x11 is for wimps :>04:12
SamvaraActually the VirtualBox interface in X11 is very nice. Easy to use, good looking, and so far reasonably reliable. I'm quite liking VB for embedded projects. It's performance is a bit crappy... but I guess they intend you to buy some Sun monster server with it04:13
SamvaraI use X11 mostly for web browsing and for running wine (like MPLAB has no native Linux version)04:14
teK_yeah, the x11-less variant is not OSS, iirc04:14
SamvaraIn principle writing a VB runner that uses a ttyS0 console and just stubbs out the VGA emulation would not be all that difficult04:16
teK_dunno :)04:16
SamvaraIf I start liking it more, then might be worth the effort :-)04:16
teK_you'd have to make it controllable through 'external' commands, too04:17
SamvaraThe OSS version compiles up quite easily, and the code is well organised. Also the API for the runner is not too bad.04:17
teK_pretty much like the vboxmanage command04:17
teK_ah, you're right, there's the sourcecode available for the OSS version... d'oh..04:17
SamvaraThe external commands can be done with vboxmanage even while the machine is running04:18
teK_vboxmanage is not part of the OSE?04:18
Samvaravboxmanage does come with OSE04:18
SamvaraAnd that does 90% of what you need for control commands04:19
teK_% pkginfo -o virtualbox | grep manage04:19
SamvaraI'm using the ubuntu 8.04.3 system with virtualbox-ose 1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu104:21
SamvaraI did compile it, just to see what would happen... but never actually used that04:21
