Ovim-ObscurumGood Mornong pitillo , sepen, Rotwang.03:13
Rotwangmorning03:13
Ovim-ObscurumI installed CRUX yesterday on a 166 Mhz pentium, and it runs pretty good. :)03:17
Ovim-ObscurumEven USB 2.0 and WLAN with WPA2 is working. ;)03:17
Rotwang;x03:18
Ovim-ObscurumThe only thing I got to check is, if X runs on that gadget03:20
Ovim-Obscurum:D03:20
sepensure, at least it should run the vesa server03:45
Ovim-ObscurumYep, but I think for this I need more ram.03:49
Ovim-ObscurumI got an toshiba libretto 100ct with 32 MB RAM.03:49
Ovim-ObscurumToday I will compile a new kernel with framebuffer support, so that I can surf with graphics on the console using links-g03:50
*** Rotwang has quit IRC03:50
sepenyeah, CRUX-i586 worked fine in my old toshiba laptop too03:51
Ovim-ObscurumYep! I installed CRUX 2.4 on an old IBM Thinkpad 760L with 90 Mhz and 24 MB a few years ago. That worked fine, too. The most old i586 machines run good with a minimalistic distro.03:52
pt_wm8505it could be interesting to build a cross toolchain and some packages, to manage those machines with pkg-get instead of native builds on them03:53
Ovim-ObscurumI compiled the kernel using VMWare, I booted the live cd, chrooted into the installation and built the kernel. That lastet at abound 5 Minutes on my Intel C2D, on the 166 Mhz Pentium it would have been a task for many many hours. :-D03:55
pt_wm8505great :)03:58
Ovim-ObscurumYep. CRUX gives old systems a last chance of usage. :-D03:58
pt_wm8505right, CRUX gives lot of versatility03:59
Ovim-ObscurumOn what kind of devices are you using it? :)04:00
sepenpt_wm8505, my old laptop is maintained by using a safe-env for 2.5(586) with optimized cflags04:01
Ovim-ObscurumSound good, how many megahertz and mb of ram has it? :)04:02
Ovim-Obscurum*+s04:03
sepen500Mhz 96MB (after purchased 64MB on ebay)04:04
Ovim-ObscurumWow, thats a lot for an old device. It's a Pentium III or an K6, isn't it?04:04
sepen*err, 233Mhz04:05
Ovim-ObscurumAww, okay. :)04:05
Ovim-Obscurum500 Mhz would be a lot for an old device. :P04:05
sepenI've another old laptop (compaq armada e500 -> 500Mhz 256MB) with crux too04:05
Ovim-ObscurumVery nice. I like the old Armada PDAs, some of them run with ARMCrux, I read yesterday.04:06

jaegerAnyone have any experience with active directory and linux integration that is NOT likewise-open?10:48
teK_what do you mean by NOT likewise-open?10:51
teK_security-wise?10:51
jaegerI mean anything that doesn't involve using the likewise-open software, it's too flaky10:52
Ovim-ObscurumDoes anybode of you know how to get links -g to work in a screen session?11:03
*** lasso|qt has quit IRC11:03
ZabaOvim-Obscurum, you can't11:05
Ovim-ObscurumSeems so.. but why?11:06
teK_jaeger: what do you want to use in your AD? Only domain membership (+users and stuff) or management, too?11:06
teK_I don't know likewise-open11:06
Ovim-ObscurumThe error is, that links don't get the vty resolution. But even, if I tell links the framebuffer mode, it can't start.11:06
jaegerteK_: I don't care about the management part, just want to auth against AD for single signon, and later I'll set up pam_mount or something to allow automounting of shared directories11:07
*** acrux|xp has quit IRC11:09
teK_how long will you be online? I did this (with samba) once11:12
teK_I event documented some steps (wrt kerberos, which was quite tricky back then)11:13
teK_in general I feel that the situation got better11:13
teK_brb11:13
ZabaOvim-Obscurum, screen emulates a terminal11:14
ZabaOvim-Obscurum, hence a different terminfo entry, and what not.11:14
ZabaOvim-Obscurum, so your links is running on a pty, not the framebuffer tty11:15
jaegerteK_: In the past I used winbind but I found that the winbindd had to be restarted about every 30 minutes, it was annoying as hell11:15
jaegerThat was a while back11:15
Ovim-Obscurumah Zaba, I got closer to it. Thanks for the information :)11:16
ZabaOvim-Obscurum, and there's no way around that, really.  Well, you could use some nasty LD_PRELOAD hack that'd mangle ioctl calls, but honestly... just run it outside screen.11:17
Ovim-ObscurumYep, thats what I did. :)11:18
Ovim-ObscurumIt working - so what? :)11:18
jaegerteK_: from what I've read the options are either kerberos (preferred) or winbind. I'd rather go with kerberos11:19

Ovim-ObscurumHuh?13:21
tilmanwhat huh13:21
Ovim-ObscurumWhat does that mean?13:21
mhiCompiling VLC with all its dependencies on a fresh installation sure takes some time :]13:21
tilmani took the changes in the 2.6 branch and 'copied' them into the 2.7 branch13:21
thrice`mm, I think I had to add a --disable-lua to my VLC compile13:21
Ovim-Obscurummhi: Depends on your hardware configuration.13:22
Ovim-Obscurumtilman: Ahh.. :)13:22
thrice`no it doesn't, qt4 is slow everywhere :p13:22
Ovim-Obscurumthrice`: Hrhr.13:22
tilmanOvim-Obscurum: i only made the bzip2 change once (in 2.6)13:22

Ovim-ObscurumOkay. :)13:22

Ovim-ObscurumI found a CRUX 2.7 RC3 ISO today in the net - when will 2.7 be released?13:23

tilmanrc4 is ready, but i haven't announced it yet13:25
Ovim-ObscurumWhere can I find the download then? The RC3 ISO I found today was not on crux.nu.13:25
Ovim-Obscurumthrice`: ACK ;)13:25
mhiOvim-Obscurum: A little belated, but: No, relations stay the same. ;]13:27
tilmanOvim-Obscurum: asking for release dates is asking to be ridiculed. and it's annoying to the people preparing the release13:28
tilmanbut the fact that we already have rc3 out means it's likely that the final version will follow soon13:28
tilmani think crux never had a third release candidate in the past13:28
thrice`and, that you can install it safely and help test :)13:28
tilmanand that there probably won't be huge changes coming still13:29
tilmanwhich is more or less 'install = safe'13:29
Ovim-ObscurumSorry, I don't want to annoy anybody of you ;)13:29

Ovim-ObscurumThe bad thing is, my software is used by some customers. And now, because I missed my deadlines, I have to offer them a free update.13:32
Ovim-Obscurum*grml* :-D13:32
mhithrice`: How long did it take compiling QT4? I'm at 1 hour ATM (1.6 Ghz, 2 Gb RAM)13:36

mhiIn this case I hope it will finish soon.. I've got other software to install :-p13:37
