sadiqlinuxI have installed crux (latest) on my Acer emachines netbook. I didn't install Lilo. I want to use Grub. After all the installation processes (compiling the kernel etc.) I tried to install grub but if fails with the error "The file /boot/grub/stage1 is not read correctly"04:03
sadiqlinuxI have done all the basic troubleshooting - viz., verified that the ISO image I downloaded was not corrupt, verified the media that I used to install crux, verified that I am using the right device names, verified the device map to be correct, verified the stage1 file to be readable and of the correct type (with the file command), ensured that the support for ext2/3/4 filesystems is in-built into the kernel and not as a module.04:03
sadiqlinuxPlease advise as to what I might be doing wrong. I really want to be able to use crux linux. Please help.04:03

sadiqlinuxjue: morning!04:04
sadiqlinuxI have posted on this channel about 4 times now, but not getting any help... if I am doing anything wrong, please let me know.04:05
sadiqlinuxI have checked on google and also on the mailing list archives.04:05
juesadiqlinux: sorry, cannot help you, I'm using lilo04:07
sadiqlinuxjue: no problem :-)04:07
juesadiqlinux: well, I'd suggest trying lilo too, if that goes wrong as well you've a serious problem, if not you can fight with grub later on04:10
sadiqlinuxseems like a good idea.04:12

jseRead the fine manual, sir. :D07:35
entejse: not adding a target is sufficient ;)07:35
thricewell, I'm at work without rsync, and the shell i'm on doesn't have it either.  will check later I suppose07:36

enteI'm going to make it a pkg-add repo or something07:38
enteeh, pkg-get (my mind is stuck on BSD ;)07:39
entesurrounder: atom is sufficient for workstations, but not for building qt ;)07:41

jueente: not really, why not just provide the bootstrapped CRUX package11:13
entejue: that's what I'm going to do11:14
entemaybe someone doesn't trust me ;)11:14
juewell, in that case he always has the official builds from haskell.org ;)11:16
enteI'm providing both11:16
juewhy?11:16
entewhy not? :)11:16
enteok, it's confusing11:16
entejust the bootstrapped one11:16
juebecause it's a bit confusing11:16
jueok11:17
entefigured out a way that's not confusing11:20
entehttp://up.barfooze.de/heilagr-201012071924.png12:24
ente(no, it's not the folding at home stuff. it's building ghc in parallel)12:26
thrice`pulseaudio, on a CRUX system? :o12:27
enteit's an ubuntu system12:27
enteuni won't let me put crux on a desktop I think :S12:28
enteI installed it in a chroot... it's still quite messy and I need to clean it up12:28
enteat least ghc finally seems to build12:29
ente217M    ghc#7.0.1-1.pkg.tar12:30
entesick12:30
thrice`:o12:30
tadzik:)12:32
tadzikalmost like texlive :)12:32
enteguess I need to build that too for crux-annoying? ;)12:33
tadzik:)12:36
tadzikyou can fix it btw12:36
tadzik:P12:36
entetadzik: fix what? :P12:40
tadzikente: my texlive?12:40
enteyour texlive?12:41
tadzikyeah, I have one12:42
tadzikwith texlive-core and texlive (with packages)12:42
enteghc has a Depends On: ghc12:43
Rotwangente: you know, gcc is kinda dependent on gcc too ;f12:43
enteRotwang: yes, but that one comes from the official crux image ;)12:43
enteRotwang: gcc doesn't have a Depends On: gcc though12:43
Rotwangente: it is not explicitly stated12:43
ente(probably to avoid recursion :)12:44
enteRotwang: would you mind updating libev to 4.01?12:45
juegcc and glibc are never listed as dependencies, see http://crux.nu/Main/PortGuidelines12:48
enteah, right, forgot about that12:48
enteRotwang: another thing, maybe thinking again about where to put the headers12:52
enteRotwang: *BSD has them in /usr/{pkg,local}/include/ev, arch has them immediately in /usr/include/, same for debian12:54
thrice` typically /usr/include/  is proper12:54
entethrice`: the point is: use a subdir or not12:55
enteand how to call the subdir12:55
enteit's 3 include files, I'd say use /usr/include without subdir12:55
thrice`ah, yeah - just checked the .footprint12:55
enteoh, geez12:56
entethis is the 5th time I rebuild ghc12:56

enteI figured 217MB is an appropriate size for xz -9 -e14:28
ente(you're not supposed to use xz -9 with smaller files as it only needlessly increases memory usage, without compressing any better_14:29
