Romsterhah if oyu think that's bad try locating a 32GB micro SD card!!!05:28
frinnsthehe05:37

Romsterthey can't be that big yet?05:41
laenExactly.05:42
laenNevermind me, i just woke up so i'm still talking gibberish.05:43
Romsterheh k05:46
Romsteri'm pvmoving some logical volumes to a new 2tb raid105:47
Romsterthis will take a little while.05:47
laenI was planning on doing a fresh install on btrfs, would love to use that for servers.. but eh.. too experimental i heard.05:52
laenNot an LVM fan.05:52
laenHave seen more negative stuff then positive stuff when i worked with LVM.05:53
frinnstcan you boot btrfs?05:59
laenWhy not?06:09
laenThere's support in the latest Grub, but i tend to use lilo so that shouldn't be a problem.06:10
Romsterbut no fsck yet.06:10
laenNope indeed.06:10
Romsteris the layout stable yet even or is it still subject to change?06:11
laenQuite stable, they don't expect to change it, prolly just add stuff.06:11
laenBut there's no guarantee.06:11

Evil_Bobi tested it on some VM a year ago, trashed my fs horribly :D07:08
slashbeastRomster: there is no fsck.07:37
slashbeastRomster: there is an issue when btrfs become slower and slower every day and only mkfs is solution (reforamt)07:37
Romsterthat's what i meant...07:37
slashbeastdefrag take ages and does not amke things better07:37
slashbeastRomster: sorry, I misreaded backlog07:38

ThePubone weakness of souce-based distro's I suppose: inability to adapt when a project goes defunct and doesn't have sources online anymore.14:23
treachdo what everyone else does; nick them from gentoo. :p14:24
treach(or find a replacement application, which is probably wiser.)14:24
*** SiFuh has quit IRC14:25
ThePubyeah, not completely familiar with all of Lyx's dependencies.  TeX is required which is where the failure is happening.14:25
ThePubsoo, looking around now.  haven't built a word processor/document system since reinstalling and was using lyx before (learning really, and really like it)14:26
treachit should work with texlive.14:26
treachnot sure what the status is wrt tex/texlive, I've *ahem* been away from crux for a while. ;)14:27

thrice`i thought you came back again? :p14:37
treachI bounced. Turned out I still had a need for some heavy duty stuff.14:38
treachthings are changing a bit now, so I'm looking at switching back again since I won't need the ability to quickly get applications with heavy deps for the forseeable future.14:40
ThePubis there something less usable about the crux dep system?  seems to be as good as anything else from what I can tell.14:41
treachThePub: there's nothing wrong with crux per se, but if you're a heavy user of KDE and the associated applications, the involved compiling quickly gets.. tedious.14:41
thrice`psh14:42
ThePubI could see how that's the case.  Although once the base system is built shouldn't most of the dependencies then be available?14:42
treachof course but it takes too long anyway.14:43
treachand then there's the update cycle, etc.14:43

thrice`kde has awful release schedule14:43
thrice`an*14:43
ThePubI don't use KDE so was just wondering :)  give me a simple tiling window manager and xterm and I'm a happy camper.14:44
*** SiFuh has joined #crux14:44
treachthat's great, if all your problems are nails, use a hammer.14:45
ThePubwasn't trying to be an ass, just wondering.  I compiled gnome3 with arch recently and it took a ton of time but was pretty flawless.  Not really crux, and definitely not KDE.14:46
treachI'm not going to debate the supposed flawlessness of gnome, arch or the amount of time you need to spend on either. I use what does the job for me, and somtimes that's a terminal in fvwm, sometimes it's karbon in kde.14:48
ThePubwasn't trying to debate it.  everyone has their own way of doing things!  us binary code run forth without an OS for all I care.  just wondering about the dependencies issue, you said it was compile times that was good, thank you!14:49
treachheh, I'm not angry if you got that impression. :)14:50
treachit's just that gnome/kde etc is such a touchy subject with heaps of strong opinions that are not always well grounded in reality, that I think it's better to leave it as it is. :)14:51
ThePubvery true, like text editors.  use what works, imo.  one thing any good CS track will teach you that not all things are silver bullets, and in the case of human-computer interaction that is definitely true.14:54
treachindeed.14:54
ThePubpersonally, I find a keyboard the "most intuitive" input device.  multi-touch has some seriously awesome implications but for the most part keyboards are great and you can tell a shell *exactly* whaqt you want.14:55
ThePubGUIs can only use implication, and at best they tend to not always be exactly waht you want.  KDE, Gnome, etc14:55
treachright. then there's the issue of discoverability etc, and then the pendulum swings the other way. Generally both environments tend to piss me off, one way or another. :>14:57
treachI hate computers these days. :>14:57
