veehey, anyone on here?19:47
ThePubnope, no one.19:49
andariusnope, not a soul19:49
prologicyeah no we're all zombies19:49
jaegerghetto trip report: I have 2 PSUs and 4 HDDs/1 SSD hooked up to this machine right now :P19:49
jaegertrying to sort out raid fuckery19:49
prologicraid is easy :)19:49
prologicwhen it's hw raid19:49
veedead people... is wear -___-19:50
veei swear*19:50
ThePub"hw" anything is easy, lol.19:50
jaegerI've got both kinds going right now19:50
jaeger3ware HD RAID1 and mdadm soft RAID119:50
jaegerer, HW19:51
jaegernot ND, fingers aren't cooperating19:51
jaegernot HD19:51
jaegerfuck you, fingers!19:51
jaegerjust bought another 3ware RAID controller, too, been very happy with those19:52
veeif you guys dont mind, i'm having an issue setting up crux. When compiling the kernel, i made SURE to allow support for the ext2,3,4 file systems, but when i boot, i get this kernel panic19:52
jaegerthis one is a PCI-X 8506-4LP, old but solid... the new one is a PCI-E 9650SE-4LPML19:52
jaegervee: did you create the FS with a set of e2fsprogs from something like ubuntu?19:53
jaegeror a custom one?19:53
jaegerthat line about unsupported optional features is suspect19:53
veewell, i used the gparted bootcd to partition the disk and what not, would that be causing the problem?19:54
jaegerdid you also create the filesystem with it?19:54
jaegerI mean, did you run (or let it run) mkfs.ext3?19:54
jaegerthat's probably why19:55
jaegercreating the partitions is safe with parted/gparted but you should make the filesystem from the CRUX CD19:55
jaegerCRUX's e2fsprogs are unpatched19:55
veei installed in on my friends pc no issues what so ever, and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work on mine. gotta try it out now19:56
jaegeryou could also boot into a rescue system and rebuild e2fsprogs, if you can find the patches the gparted CD uses19:56
jaegerthat's probably more work than it's worth, though19:56
vee*face palm*19:56
jaegerdid you use a different FS on the friend's PC?19:56
veei wiped his comp down and used cfdisk within crux, that was the only difference19:56
jaegerMy guess is you created the FS with the CRUX CD in that case but not in this case, though that's speculation since I'm not you :)19:56
veebut, didn't think that would be it19:56
jaegerAh, so you did the whole thing from within CRUX on his?19:57
veei meant yes when i said no19:57
jaegerI'm sure that's it, then19:57
jaegerhaha, ok19:57
veealrighty thanks a bunch19:57
veetime to re - re -re -re -re -re -re compile the kernel (pretty sure i missed a few re's in there.19:57
veeprobably attempted it 15 times thinking i didn't indicate the allow the certain file system support19:58
veeepic face palm19:58
jaegerthat sucks, sorry19:58
jaegerI recommend saving the .config somewhere so you can just scp/rsync it back =)19:59
veeyea, i would have, but i cant save something that isn't work -_____-20:00
veeface palm x1720:00
veeanyways THANKS A TON broheem20:00
*** vee has quit IRC20:02
jaegerbroheem, eh? heh20:04
jaegeruploading a new "-updated" ISO if anyone cares20:22
*** acrux has quit IRC21:01
*** acrux has joined #crux21:03
*** vee has joined #crux21:06
veeim back...after formatting everything with mkfs, i still get the same kernel panic21:07
jaegersame one about the filesystem having unsupported features?21:22
veethe only two other problems it can be is the lilo config which boot is set to /dev/sda and root to /dev/sda1 (not sure if boot needs to be sda1 as well)21:34
veeor fstab21:34
veewhich i doubt21:34
prologicWould anyone be able to help identify if a particular piece of hardware is supported by linux ?21:35
jaegerIf you're still getting that weird unsupported features message I think it's got to be an odd e2fsprogs package21:35
jaegerprologic: can try21:36
jaegervee: what's your installation procedure from start to finish?21:36
prologicspecifically a KWORLD PE355-2T21:36
prologicit's a DVB-T dual tuner PCIe card21:36
jaegermost kworld cards have linux drivers21:37
veei boot up, hit enter to boot from the cd, check cfdisk /dev/sda , make 2 disks, mkfs.ext 4 sda1 and swap the other21:37
veeselect all packages just to be safe, all the core packages21:37
jaegerat least I've read that. I don't own any myself21:37
veeafter mounting and everything of course21:38
veeand pretty much follow the hand book21:38
jaegerI wonder if cfdisk could be causing it21:38
prologicjaeger, yeah I read that they support linux in their "About" page21:38
prologicbut I can't verify if this card is supported21:38
jaegeralso, are you enabling extra features in the kernel ext4 driver like posix acl support and things like that?21:38
veeyes sir21:38
prologicor if anyone's gotten it working successfully21:38
jaegerprologic: ah, fair enough. sorry, don't have any personal experience with them but I've read that kworld cards in general do work21:38
veei enable everything except the turn the ext3 default to something21:38
prologicjaeger, got a recent kernel you can check it's config for ? :)21:39
prologicI desperately need to upgrade my desktop to CRUX 2.721:39
jaegerI've got handy21:39
jaegerwill check21:40
prologicty :)21:40
jaegerno matches for pe355 or kworld, maybe it's an out-of-kernel driver =/21:40
jaegervee: I guess my next suggestion would be to turn off all the extra features there and see if it helps... I don't use them myself21:40
jaegerthough if you set them up the same way on your  friend's machine, that wouldn't be it21:41
jaegeralso, you might try reiserfs or xfs as an alternative, see if you get better results21:41
veehm...which one in your opinion would be better for performance?21:41
prologicthe product specifications don't say waht chipset it users either21:42
prologicuseless :/21:42
veeone question though....21:44
veewhen it asks where is the root director mounted21:44
veethe default is /mnt21:45
jaegervee: reiserfs of those two21:45
veeshouldn't it be /dev/sda1?21:45
jaegervee: nah, /mnt is correct21:45
jaeger /dev/sda1 is the device, /mnt is where it gets mounted21:45
veewell, thats not it either then....21:46
veemaybe dell demension 3000's aren't crux's best friend. xD21:46
*** Dudde has quit IRC21:46
jaegerwasn't that virtualbox? hehe21:46
veeyep, but i also installed it on the actual machine thinking it was virtual box causing the issue xD21:47
*** Dudde has joined #crux21:47
veewould the fstab cause this issue?21:48
jaegerdoubt it but I'm not sure at this point21:48
veeugh. i swear, i have the worst luck. xD21:49
veetime to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re compile the kernel xD22:13
prologicdid that feel good ? :)22:15
veethe 28th time is the charm, you know.22:19
veesure got quiet in here22:45
