rmullIs there an official crux logo, or is it the penguin on the homepage?09:01
Romsterpenguin on the homepage, afaik09:02
prologicrmull, blue penguijn :)09:04
rmullOkay, thakn you09:05
rmullWhich definition of the word "crux" was in mind when the name was chosen?09:09
Romsterthat's on the wiki page...09:10
rmullIndeed it is.09:10
joe9when I do "man <anything>", some of the characters display as " <A9>  ". Any thoughts on what I might be missing?09:12
rmullWhat kind of terminal setup?09:13
rmullas user or root?09:13
joe9as user09:13
rmullHmm, never seen something like that09:14
joe9rmull: as both, actually.09:14
rmullnothing special about your MANPAGER/09:14
joe9rmull, nothing, the value is not set09:17
rmullIs it always the same char that gets replaced?09:18
rmullA9 in ascii is the copyright symbol (c)09:19
joe9rmull, some other characters also show up like that.09:20
joe9but, cannot find examples of them now.09:21
rmullnot sure, sorry09:21
joe9and that fixed it.09:23

prologicjoe9, that was for you09:39
joe9prologic: i doubt it adding the above fixed it.09:39
Romsterrmull, does LC_ALL man foo fix it?09:41
RomsterLC_ALL=C man foo09:41
unterwulfhi. i've just noticed that inotify-tools package from contrib installs manual pages into /usr/share/man instead of /usr/man. is it ok to report about such an issue here or at #crux-devel? (I know about bug tracking system, but wondering if there is a simpler way.)09:48
Romsterunterwulf, email the maintiner of the port or if they are in irc just ask them here.09:49
Romsterthat would be teK_  unterwulf and he is about.09:50
rmullteK_: Ping :)09:51
joe9Romster: no, LC_ALL did not fix it for me.09:57
Romsterah but LESSCHARSET did hmm.10:02
*** clod89 has joined #crux10:07
clod89i've updated xcb to a newer version and discovered that in order to make some software work i had to symlink /usr/lib/ to /usr/lib/, how can i do the synlinking in the Pkgfile? can i just add the line after make DESTDIR with $PKG as a prefix?10:08
nogagplzisn't that broken horribly then, you should probably rebuild your other stuff to accommodate the change10:10
clod89nogagplz: what do you mean?10:14
clod89nogagplz: what should i recompile?10:15
cruxbot[contrib.git/2.7]: glew: contrib -> opt10:29
cruxbot[opt.git/2.7]: glew: contrib -> opt10:30
joe9Romster: yes, LESSCHARSET did.10:31
*** melon1 has quit IRC10:34
rmullclod89: You have to be careful that you get your link paths correct, but yes, pretty much10:40
rmullgrep -R "ln -s" /usr/ports/core/*/Pkgfile if you want to see some examples10:41
jaegersymlinking -utils to -aux seems a really bad idea to me10:41
rmullYeah, that's another issue, haha.10:42
jaegerconsidering they may (likely) have completely different purposes10:42
rmullI didn't need the -R flag, sorry.10:42
clod89rmull: i've looked into a gentoo ebuild to see if the symlink is created as a standard when installing the package but it is not, so is there a cleaner way of fixing it?10:42
*** lasso|qt has quit IRC10:42
rmullclod89: Fix what, exactly, the -utils -> -aux requirement?10:43
rmullWhat breaks, and in what way, without the link?10:43
jaegerPerhaps a better question from my perspective is what made linking -utils to -aux sound like a good idea or the proper fix?10:44
clod89rmull: i've compiled the latest version of awesome wm and that (but a quick search on google will tell you there are many more packages) will not work since it looks for when starting10:44
jaegerwas the code that created -aux moved to -utils?10:44
clod89jaeger: i honestly don't know what that means :-/10:45
jaegerfair enough10:46
jaegerHow about this, then? Why did you pick the -utils library to link?10:46
rmullclod89: is supplied by the port xorg-xcb-utils - there is no that I can see10:47
rmullSo if awesomewm is looking for -aux, it should find it. Not sure where the comes in.10:47
clod89rmull: as i wrote at the beginning i updated xcb to a newer version in order to compile awesome, with that all of its dependencies among which there's libxcb which creates that library10:48
rmullI see. It may be worth diffing them, maybe they renamed the file?10:51
rmullBut then they're binary files, so idk10:53
clod89rmull: they probably did and that would explain why the symlink works, but i don't understand why awesome still looks for the old file, i've got the same xcb libxcb and awesome versions up and running on a gentoo install and that symlink does not exists10:53
jaegerclod89: does recompiling the programs that look for the old lib not fix the problem?10:53
*** sepen has quit IRC10:54
clod89jaeger: nope it was compiled already against those libraries10:55

clod89jaeger: i've fixed i had to recompile startup-notification apparently and turn off most of the cmake options enabled in the original Pkgfile11:19
jaegerclod89: how odd, heh11:20
jaegerabout the cmake options, I mean11:20
jaegerrecompiling startup-notification makes sense, I had to do that with the x11r7.7 stuff anyway11:20
clod89jaeger: well with those enabled it compiled fine as soon as i turned the off (all but setting /usr as dir) it failed to compile saying it could not link to the library, that was a step in the right direction since it shouldn't have built in the first place, then after some googling i found out about recompiling startup-notification11:22
clod89jaeger: i still don't understand why recompiling startup notification fixes linking to a libxcb library though11:24
jaegerwell, startup-notification probably linked against it, too, and when the lib disappeared, it broke11:25
