prologicdo we have memtest on our crux cds?18:14
*** lasso has quit IRC18:59
prologicif one suspects ram issues19:02
prologichow long should you run memtest for?19:02
prologicit's done 1 pass so far with no errirs19:02
jaeger1 pass is enough, 99% of the time19:05
jaegerif you have errors they generally show in the first 30 seconds19:05
Romsterif you can test 1 module installed at a time.19:27
Romstersometimes more than 1 ram module masks the error.19:27
Romsterand it could also be put down to crappy psu or dirty connections, clean the ram contacts.19:28

prologicwell it's gone through 6 passes now22:24
prologicand no errors22:25
jaegershould be fine, then22:25
prologicso I'm not sure what to do next22:25
jaegerhaving problems with something?22:25
prologicsymtoms of my media box (crux 2.7 + mythtv) are that occasionally (every few weeks or so) the frontend will freeze22:25
prologicbut the backend may still be recording and I can still ssh into the box22:25
Romstertry prime95 i know it's not linux but it's a good test on hirens live cd22:25
prologicbut if I try to say do "ps aux" the kernel crashes and the whole thing dies22:25
prologicI can't put my finger on it though22:26
prologicit's not a consistent thing22:26
prologicalso the BIOS also freezes at startup occasionally as well22:26
prologicbefore boot22:26
Romsterreset the bios by removing power and battery wait like 15 minutes reset defaults. sometimes cmos can be corrupt in odd ways22:26
prologicso if it's not bad ram I'm clueless22:27
horrorStruckmythtv has no logging? and Xorg logs?22:27
prologicit happens so rarely and so randomly I haven't thought to look at the previous logs yet22:27
prologicnear as I can tell it's not reproduceable22:28
prologicI'm tempted to thing it's just a bad/cheap motherboard22:28
horrorStruckany BIOS update available?22:28
prologicIt as a ASRock H67M-ITX-HT Motherboard B3 with Kingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9K2/4G 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 RAM and a ntel Core i3 2120 CPU22:29
prologichorrorStruck, that's what I plan on checking next - yeah22:30
jaegerWeird inconsistencies like that would make me check the CPU22:31
prologicany tool to do so?22:31
jaegerrun prime95 as was suggested and also take it out and redo the thermal paste if you can22:31
jaegerisopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth is good for that22:31
horrorStruckthey say systemd is fast, take that pottering :P22:32
prologichmmm where do I get prime95 from?22:34
jaegergoogle :)22:35
jaeger(don't remember off the top of my head)22:35
nogagplziosn't it on the hirens disk22:35
prologicperhaps we should consider putting mprime (found the so-called linux cli equivilent) onto our cd22:46
prologicdid you guys see the new Manjaro Linux?22:49
prologicArch Linux for n00bs :)22:49
prologic/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgcc_s22:53
Romsterboto in windows off that cd and run the hriens menu and look in testing22:58
Romsterreseating the cpu is a good idea in them hard to find cases, more so from bad connection than over heating22:59
Romsterbut as i said earlier it could be a bad psu, capacitors dry out more noise/ripple on the rails more chance of corrupting data, freezing. i've also seen hard disks not respond that lockup a system too.23:01
