roelof1somone who can help me solve these 2 issues : https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-desktop/issues/49#issuecomment-1230747208:20
jaegerroelof1: after adding the mate repository did you update gtk, atk, pango, gdk-pixbuf, and udev from it?08:23
roelof1nope, I just did the install instructions like the install page has said08:23
roelof1I never did read something about update these packages08:24
jaegerread https://code.google.com/p/crux-mate/ again, they are mentioned specifically08:24
jaegerIn the quickstart section08:24
roelof1oke, then I misread it08:25
roelof1I did all the steps till ports -u and then the prt-get depinst mate rule08:26
roelof1I thought the other rule was to update a existing Mate08:26

roelof1jeager: sorry pressed a wrong buttion08:27
cruxbot[core.git/2.8]: sudo: update to 1.8.6p408:27
roelof1So I schould do the prt-get quickdiff08:28
jaegerusually the mate versions of those ports have their version incremented just above the default crux ones, so you should be able to sysup with them. udev might not be correct, though08:29
jaegeryou can always do a 'prt-get update udev' or any of the other ports, just make sure that 'prtdir /usr/ports/mate' is the FIRST one in prt-get.conf08:30
roelof1oke, I will try that , thanks for the help08:31
jaegernp, good luck08:31
roelof1I will try the sysup and hope it work08:31

joe9there was some reference/tutorial on how to install crux without using a cd. by mounting the crux cd as a loopback device and installing off of it.17:12
joe9does anyone know where that is?17:13
jaegerjoe9: perhaps you're referring to http://crux.nu/Wiki/UpgradeWithMinimumDowntime ?17:21
joe9jaeger: thanks a lot17:21
jaegernp17:22
jaegerIt's a bit out of date as there's no squashfs anymore, for what that's worth17:22
joe9thanks, let me check the iso then. but, that is a good start.17:23
joe9jaeger: instead of squashfs, is it the rootfs.tar.gz now?17:47
joe9is it as simple as untarring that file in the root directory of the mount?17:47
jaegerjoe9: you should be able to do it the same way as that wiki page suggest except that the rootfs.tar.xz has no squashfs-root topdir17:49
jaegerjoe9: in other words I'd suggest creating a dir for it before you uncompress it17:50
joe9jaeger: ok, got it. thanks. some root dir instead of squashfs-root.17:51
jaegeryou could call it squashfs-root if you like, even :)17:51
joe9makes sense for simplicity.17:52
joe9jaeger: on a different note, I am installing crux on a system prone to power outages. after the installation, I plan on making the root fs ro17:52
joe9and have /var, /tmp from some tmpfs17:52
joe9do you think that would work with crux?17:52
jaegerI can't think of a reason it wouldn't17:53
joe9ok, thanks.17:53
