cmputarI'm installing a few packages trying to get kde4. One of the dependencies is libatasmart from, which seems to be resetting any incoming connections and has been for at least the last 10 hours. Should I just wait for it to fix itself or is there another way. As far as portdb is concerned it's only available there.09:29

teK--Romster: is there currently no better way for ffmpeg to support webm encoding than to install libvpx and enable it manually in the Pkgfile?11:37

BitPuffinRomster: ah! Well this was to install kde for cmputar12:17
Romsteroh i'm not tracking kde.12:18
Romsterkde should have a ton of mirrors as it is12:18
BitPuffinit was that 0pointer thing if you check the logs :)12:18
Romsterah that12:18
jaegerincidentally I've downloaded from several times in the last few days building MATE12:19
Romsterno idea what happened to that12:19 does not load for me and says it's down.12:19
Romster(libcanberra) makes me think of Parliament house in our Canberra12:20
jaegerIt's down now, sure, but my point was it hasn't been down for 3 months straight12:20
jaegerNot that that helps cmputar, obviously12:22
jaegeryeesh. printed 9 posters between yesterday and this morning... still have 2 incoming sometime today12:23
cmputarSorry I was away. I decided to cleanup what I did with kde4 and try out enlightenment instead.12:24
cmputarBut thanks anyway! ^_^12:27
jaegerAny ever print posters with cups in linux? I can't get cups to print any larger than US letter size even though the paper is 44" wide12:29
jaegerthough it works fine from MacOS X using cups12:30
jaegeror windows (how I printed most of them)12:30
Romstereh i print o A4 bit bigger than letter but i do't have A3 or anything bigger at home.12:31

cmputarTrying to install the xfce4 package. This is what I get. THanks in advance.
frinnstdid you run out of space or soemthing?13:12
frinnstit ends very suddenly13:12
cmputarI shouldn't even be remotely close. But something might have gone wrong. How do I check that?13:13
frinnstwell prt-get just calls "pkgmk"13:13
frinnstso first thing i'd do is to do it manually: cd /usr/ports/opt/p5-uri/ && pkgmk -d -i13:14
cmputarOkay. I'll do that.13:14
BitPuffindf -h13:16
BitPuffinto check space13:16
cmputarspace is definitely not full13:18
BitPuffinit's not even saying any error message13:19
cmputarprt-get isinst p5-uri13:20
BitPuffinpackage p5-uri is not installed13:21
cmputar^ that13:21
BitPuffinfrinnst: is p5-uri new in opt? As in after rc213:22
BitPuffinI'm pretty sure he installed everything in opt when I guided him through the install13:22
frinnstnot everything in opt is included on the iso13:22
BitPuffinwell that would explain it13:23
BitPuffinI also tried installing it on my server13:24
BitPuffindid not work13:24
BitPuffinfrinnst: so I guess tha package is broken13:24
BitPuffinor well13:24
BitPuffinit's just missing stuff from footrprint13:24
frinnstyes, because the footprint has not yet been updated in 3.113:25
BitPuffinyeah told him to install with -if13:25
cmputarworked so far13:25
cmputarxfce4 install is running fine now. So far13:26
cruxbot[core.git/3.0]: [notify] openssl: security update to 1.0.1h13:29

BitPuffin                                            13:29
Romsterp5-uri builds fine here13:33
BitPuffinRomster: on 3.0? We're running 3.113:34
Romsterare you sure PKGMK_WORK_DIR= exists?13:34
Romsteron both13:34
Romster3.1 does have a footprint mismatch on perl though but if you do -uf it works13:35
BitPuffinI haven't set it13:35
*** jdolan has joined #crux13:35
Romsterthe fact i don't see Building '/var/ports/packages/p5-uri#1.60-1.pkg.tar.gz'13:35
Romstermakes me beleave you can't write to PKGMK_PACKAGE_DIR13:35
BitPuffinyou should be able to if you are root no?13:36
Romsteryu must of set something in /etc/pkgmk.conf and not made the directory or the permissions are wrong.13:36
Romsteryes unless permissions are wrong.13:36
Romsterand i updated opt-3.1/p5-uri footprint13:42
Romsteror maybe you broke pkgutils/libarchive somehow?13:43
Romsterpkgadd -u off the iso them two.13:43

teK--do you have the port xorg-xf86-input-synaptics14:04
cmputarnope. Should I?14:04
frinnstyeah, its quite impossible without it..14:05
cmputarOkay. Thanks14:05
cmputarTUrned out it was installed.14:05
frinnstso what does the xorg log say?14:06
cmputaryou mean the terminal window where i ran startx or some log file?14:08
frinnstits /var/log/Xorg.log or something14:08
BitPuffinpossible /var/log/Xorgo.0.log14:09
frinnstyeah, thats it14:10
teK--also check your kernel configuration14:10
teK--I did not needany firmware files to get it working14:11
frinnstyeah, I dont see it being detected at all14:12
frinnstprobably a kernel thing as tek is saying14:12
teK--so I was right once. phew :>14:12

BitPuffinthe CVE14:30
frinnsti thought it was quite self-explained14:30
teK--privilege escalation14:31
frinnstA local unprivileged user can use this flaw to increase their privileges on the system.14:31
teK--i.e. a bad thingy14:31
BitPuffinA flaw was found in the way pi to pi futex requeueing was handled.14:31
BitPuffindoesn't really say what the flaw is14:31
teK--it doesn't even contain a patch14:31
BitPuffinyeah that part I undestand14:31
BitPuffinyeah I can't even see a patch exactly14:31
teK--16:16 < grsecurity> Fix doesn't seem to be in any git tree I follow, no oss-sec mail, found these <…> <…>14:32

mluxHi there. I'm new to Crux and wanted to know a few things.15:25
mluxFirst: Does the ports system also cover all packages from the base installation (meaning they are updated with "prt-get sysup")?15:25
BitPuffinmlux: yes15:27
BitPuffinand welcome15:27
mluxgreat. Thanks :) ..  Would that mean that it is more or less a rolling release system? Or do updates come in certain "waves"?15:28
BitPuffinkind of semi rolling15:28
BitPuffinit stops rolling once there is major breakage, so that it can be handled by an upgrade to the next version15:28
BitPuffinkind of15:28
BitPuffinmlux: but if you are wondering if we freeze everything for a release then no15:29
BitPuffinso the answer is "yes"15:30
mluxHehe, good :)15:30
mluxWhat about upgrades to new releases? How will new functions and structures in Crux itself propagated. Is there some kind of upgrading script?15:31
BitPuffinmlux: on the iso there is an upgrade option15:32
mluxyeah, I saw that. But is it only for packages?15:32
mluxOr will it also upgrade other structures (for example a new init system (god forbid, I have no better example)15:32
BitPuffinmlux: well no, also stuff like config files etc15:32
BitPuffinmlux: sure if we were to switch init system I'd imagine it would handle that15:33
BitPuffinand then you run revdep to fix conflicts15:33
BitPuffinfor example if you have changed a config file15:33
BitPuffinand there is a new one15:33
BitPuffinthen you get to decide how that should bee handled15:33
mluxThat's nice :)15:33
BitPuffinit is!15:34
