cmputarHi! Im back again. I cant figure out how you change your keyboard layout once youve started x12:18
Pingaxon x you've setxkbmap to change keyboard layout12:19
cmputar(also does it usually take several hours to compile chromium)12:19
cmputarthanks12:19
cmputarShould I add that command into xinit_12:20
PingaxDon't know, I usually set my layout in xorg's conf12:21
cmputarill check it out. cheers. also, about compiling cromium. does it usually take several hours <questionmark>12:22
cmputarchromium12:22
PingaxAgain, I can't tell you, I never built it12:24
cmputaroh ok12:24

PingaxCrux's working \o/12:59
cmputar\o/12:59
frinnstchromium usually takes a while, hours? depends on your cpu13:01
*** sh[4]rm4 has joined #crux13:01
cmputarI'm trying to make x default to using a keymap. I was told it could be done in xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf right?) but there is no such file there. Only a folder. Should I just create that file?13:01
cmputarYes, been compiling for 5hrs now13:01
frinnstyeah you could just create it13:02
cmputarkeeps making progress, but it takes super long13:02
frinnstI have "Option "xkblayout" "se"" in my x config13:03
frinnstswedish keyboard13:03
cmputarthanks. Was just trying to figure out the formatting of that file (since i'm creating it myself)13:04
cmputarMan, leaving the comfort of precompiled and entering the heaven of DIY is a good learning experience13:05
Pingax+113:05
cmputarCan you make comments in xorg.conf?13:07
MelonFaceChanged name from cmputar -> MelonFace13:08
*** dkoby has joined #crux13:09
PingaxMelonFace, using # as first character you could add comments13:09
MelonFaceCheers! What syntax system is that? Do all .conf files follow the same structure?13:10
PingaxYes :13:11
PingaxSection "section name"13:11
Pingax    data13:11
PingaxEndSection13:11
PingaxHere some doc : https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xorg/Configuration/en13:12
MelonFaceso right now:13:12
Pingax(including part for keyboard)13:12
MelonFacecat /etc/X11/xorg.conf13:12
MelonFacereturns13:12
MelonFace#comment13:12
MelonFaceOpion "xblayout" "se"13:13
MelonFaceThat would work right? (Cant test, compiling).13:13
Pingaxnope, you're missing a Section13:13
MelonFaceOOh13:13
mike_kMelonFace: many programs and libs treat the first '#' as comment. but otherwise the world of config files is very 'uneven'13:13
PingaxMelonFace, refer to the gentoo doc. There's an example for configuring keyboard for Xorg13:14
MelonFacegreat thanks!13:14
*** jdolan has joined #crux13:18
MelonFaceCan you depinst several packages at the same time or can there only be one instance of the install stuff /will it cause conflicts?13:27
prologicyes you can13:29
prologicprt-get depisnt foo bar baz13:29
prologicAlso you don't necessarily need an xorg.conf configuration13:29
prologicXorg should pick up most things - the most you might need is a Device section13:30
MelonFaceI'm using it to have it start with the "sv" keyboard layout13:30
prologic*nods*13:31
prologicdo you may need that + a Device section13:31
prologice.g: if you're using an nvidia or ati card13:31
prologicI think I only have a Device section for my nvidia card13:31
MelonFaceOkay. Right now x is working fine with no xorg.conf at all though13:31
MelonFaceBut do you mean for proparitary drivers and such? (Because I plan to get those)13:32
prologicokay13:32
prologicso yeah just configure your keybaord layout13:32
prologicand leave the rest alone13:32
prologicyeah13:32
prologicI'm not sure how the defaults work13:32
prologicbut I'm pretty sure vga or equivilent drivers are loaded in preference to say nvidia13:32
prologicunless you explicitly use nvidia13:32
MelonFaceI should probably just read the readme of the drivers13:32
prologicthere's lots of docs on xorg configus :)13:33
MelonFaceAlso about the depinst thing. I was thinking rather like installing one thing while you're installing another. For example right now (and for the last 5.5hrs) I've been installing chromium. Could I install another package simultaneously?13:34
prologicyes13:36
prologicafaik /var/lig/pkg/db is locked during writes13:36
MelonFaceThat sounded like a contradiction.13:38

MelonFaceWhen trying to install Tilda I get this. I've tried researching it but with my limited experience of this I can not gather more than what it says in the error. That there is some faulty reference to yylex.  https://gist.github.com/bc7895c39af6bb6ab5d217:55
MelonFaceIt's from the port contib17:55
jaegerI might be blind but I don't see the actual error in that output17:56

jaegerhrmm... no idea there, sorry.18:02
MelonFaceOk. Thanks anyway.18:04
jaegersome searching around online suggests downgrading flex or that it's a problem with the way tilda is linked18:04
jaegermaybe that's a place to start18:04
MelonFaceI'll give it some time later. I've been learning a lot installing crux. But I think I'll reload crux and while I'm at it dualboot it with Ubuntu. I need to be productive too haha. I'll probably come back asking for help with the new reload. I'm really greatful for this awesome and helpful comunity that has made it possible for me to really wrap my head around how linux works.18:08
