henesylong time no see, after a 2 year hiatus, anyone here tried running crux in proxmox or just a container in general?00:51
*** kkk has joined #crux01:09
Guest24474hey, can someone please help me with cryptsetup and how i get it on the install disc so i can use it to encrypt my partitions?01:16
*** dougl has quit IRC01:17
henesyGuest24474, http://crux.nu/Wiki/BuildingISO01:17
Guest24474henesy: thanks, i will have a look01:18
henesynp man, keep tabs on the crux wiki and/or handbook, they're invaluable01:18
Guest24474uff, that seams like a lot of work to get cryptsetup in there ...01:20
Guest24474is there a faster way of getting encryptet partitions in crux?01:20
henesyGuest24474, http://crux.nu/Wiki/Cryptsetup01:22
Guest24474i have read that article already, but the links in the article are down01:23
Guest24474thats why i am asking here :)01:23
Guest24474the problem with building my own iso is the cloning of the repos ... it already took me 4 hours to download the iso01:23
Guest24474my internet connection really sucks here01:23
jaegeryou don't have to pull the entire git repo to build an ISO if you don't want to, you can use the regular ports trees01:24
jaegeror even take apart the ISO and recreate it without even rebuild a package01:25
henesy^01:26
Guest24474would that mean to just add the cryptsetup .pkg.tar.xz into the /crux/opt/ directory?01:27
jaegerhenesy: someone maintains a crux docker thingy I believe01:27
jaegerno idea about proxmox01:27
henesyjaeger, this is mainly about openvz containers, i can run a VM any day, but I was wondering if crux had any relevant OpenVZ support01:28
henesyIf not, I guess I'd make that a project01:28
jaegernothing official, I suppose01:28
jaegerGuest24474: should work. setup searches for packages on the ISO when it runs so it should pick up your cryptsetup package01:29
*** dougl has joined #crux01:30
Guest24474hmm, i think i have a logic problem ... putting the cryptsetup package in there allows me to install it into the new system. however it does not become available BEFORE in run the setup in the live environment to create the cryptocontainers and put them into /dev/mapper/foo and mount them into /mnt/01:32
henesyyou could compile it and stick it into the install iso01:33
jaegeryou'd need to add cryptsetup to the ISO environment as well01:33
henesy^01:33
jaegera static cryptsetup binary for ease01:33
Guest24474thats what i thought .. so i have to rebuild the iso01:34
Guest24474well that could be interesting ... specially for someone who used the debian installer for the last 7 years *g*01:35
jaegeryou could also install with a non-crux livecd that has cryptsetup support already01:35
Guest24474jaeger: installing crux from a non-crux install disc?01:36
Guest24474or do you mean just creating the partitions from a non-crux install disc?01:37
jaegerI mean installing01:37
jaegercrux packages are tarballs, it's not complicated to install them outside of crux01:37
jaegerespecially if you install pkgutils on the host first01:37
Guest24474so basicly i use a live iso, partition my system and extract the crux tarballs over it?01:39
Guest24474and then chroot into it and run the lilo install?01:39
jaegerpretty much01:40
jaegerIf you don't use pkgutils the package database will be useless, but it'll work01:40
jaegeryou could brute force fix that by re-running pkgadd on all the packages after they're installed01:40
Guest24474so the best order would be kernel -> pkgutils -> other packages ?01:41
jaegerThe kernel isn't managed by pkgutils so not really related in this case01:42
jaegerMy recommendation would be to just install pkgutils into the live environment, I imagine at least one of them has some room available in ram for that01:42
Guest24474so if i use a debian live image i install pkgutils in debian? and use it from there so it keeps track of the packages in the db?01:43
jaegeryes. You only need it long enough to install the packages from the crux ISO01:44
Guest24474wow, that sounds very cool. i am sure thats going to be a loooong night *g*01:44
Guest24474jaeger: bit thanks for explaining it!01:45
jaegernp01:45
jaegerone thing to keep in mind:01:45
jaegerwhen you do the install, you need a package database (empty) for pkgadd to install the packages01:45
jaegerso you do something like this:01:45
jaegermkdir -p <target>/var/lib/pkg01:45
jaegertouch <target>/var/lib/pkg/db01:45
jaegerfor P in *.pkg.tar.gz; do pkgadd -r <target> ${P}; done01:46
Guest24474AH ... the db is a file ... i created a folder ... no wonder pkgadd just crashed01:46
jaegerindeed01:47
Guest24474if this works i am personally going to write it in the wiki *g*01:49
Guest24474hmm, okay ... building pgkutils on debian is not so easy02:01

z3braMy script still included loopback interface though15:11
z3bramight be because of this15:11
jaegerlo should be left alone in most cases15:29
jaegerusually slowdown in the net script is due to dhcpcd not backgrounding15:30
