rocxprologic: Well, it's not "brand spanking new", since the hard drive did have Crunchbang on it before.00:06
*** hotaronohanako has quit IRC00:08
prologicso you quite literally installed crux over the top of this? :)00:12
*** hotaronohanako has joined #crux00:13
*** jdolan has joined #crux00:14
rocxBad idea? Had a bit of difficulty with fdisk, going through this for the first time and all as a learning experience.00:14
FaymA bit yeah.00:15
FaymYou /can/ do it.  Just need to nuke everything but /home, /root and a bunch of /var (if you have databases or mail stashed there)00:16
prologicyeah totally a bad idea00:18
prologicI’m surprised it works at all :000:18
prologicyou best start over, fdisk and make a new sil system00:18
prologicand follow the install guide :)00:18
prologicwhat Faym said :)00:18
*** jdolan has quit IRC00:20
rocxGoing straight from Xubuntu to this, so some parts of the guide may fly over my head. Guess it's time for a DBAN to start from scratch.00:21
prologicit’s mostly about understanding the software you are installing and using00:22
prologicstart with a basic console-only install and follow the guide00:22
prologicyou should get a working system with patience :)00:22
prologicthen install xorg and fluxbox or similar to start off with00:23
prologicsimplest and quickest wm ihmo00:23
prologicalso a tip: many of the Arch wiki pages are very helpful and relevant for various bits of software and many are quite translatable to crux and the way we do things around here00:23
rocxArch Wiki's been helpful long before. Don't know what I'd do without it.00:24
prologicyeah :)00:26
jaegerunlike aliens, you don't have to nuke it from orbit00:28
jaegeryou can even reuse the crunchbang partitions if you want, just need new filesystems00:28
prologicyeah00:29

WorksterFaym, i'm using pkg-not from sepen to lok for untracked files, but if pkgadd says it's already there it's from a previous port that has it on your system. pkgadd -f -u filenname, but use with care01:38
Worksterprologic, no need use pkg-not find all the untracked files remove those that need to go.01:39
Worksters/lok/lookg01:40
prologicisn’t there another tool in prt-utils that does something ismilar?01:41
Worksterno sure.01:43
Worksternot01:43
Worksterpkg-not should go in prt-utils in my opinion01:43
Worksterwhy redo a system when you can find untracked files?01:43
prologicthere’s prtcheckmissing01:43
prologicand prtorphan01:43
Worksterhmm01:43
Worksterprtorphon checks for orphaned files or ports? not on crux atm01:44
prologicdunno01:44
prologicpkg-not is new to me01:44
prologicI’ll check it out at home ;)01:44
Worksterdon't think it's hosted anywhere01:47
Worksterhttps://gist.github.com/anonymous/2a7ec79854c715f3cd0901:49
Worksteri was going to write a tool that did this but sepen beat me to it so i've been using his.01:50
Worksterprtorhpan - list orphaned ports on your CRUX system01:50
Worksteryeah not file based like pkg-not01:50
Worksterpkg/not /usr/lib01:51
Worksteroops01:51
Worksterpkg-not /usr/lib01:51
Worksterman i arn't doing so good on typing01:51
*** quasinoxen has quit IRC01:53
Worksterjust be careful of cache files and configuration files like kernel .config etc. as the majority are not tracked by pkgutils. if oyu plan to feed pkg-not to rm01:56
prologichmm thanks Workster01:56
prologicI’ll check it out01:56
prologicI’m still confused as to what it does exactly :)01:57
*** quasinoxen has joined #crux01:59
Worksterit lists files that are not listed in the database.02:01
Worksterlike oops yo installed a port that didn't goto $PKG onto your system and didn't use fakeroot, pkg-not will find those files.02:02
prologicahh I see02:02
Workstereasy to clean readd pkackages no need to redo kernel after formatting and partitioning again.02:03
prologicso basicaly the inverse of prtcheckmissing02:03
prologicI think02:03
Worksters/readd/readd/02:03
Worksteryes for files02:03
Worksterso if you installed crux over a another ditro you can then find and remove untracked files.02:03
Worksterthat are not in the database02:03
Worksterwont for for file conflicts between different packages though that are already in the database.02:04
