EmoSpicegood morning, all15:13
*** pejman has quit IRC15:15
EmoSpiceI'm looking to build a port that would adapt to patches being present alongside the original Pkgfile (but wouldn't require them to be present, nor would they be in the downloaded source). How might I do this?15:15
EmoSpiceInspecting env's output inside the Pkgfile, all I can see that's got the directory I need is $OLDPWD, which...doesn't feel right to use, and I can't rely on $PKG or $SRC being relative to the portdir, can I?15:16
*** esmth_ has quit IRC15:17
*** esmth has joined #crux15:18
jaegerthere's not a supported way to do that. you could override the build function or similar but nothing official15:31
*** pejman has joined #crux15:32
*** pejman has quit IRC15:32
*** pejman has joined #crux15:32
EmoSpicethen $OLDPWD it is15:33
EmoSpicethanks, jaeger15:33
jaegernp15:33
EmoSpiceDoesn't look like it'd be hard to export a new variable referring to the directory with the current Pkgfile (something like $PKGMK_START or something). Is there any intersest in this sort of thing? I imagine that the thing I'm doing is either dumb or just uncommon, but adding the extra var would be just one more export.15:48
EmoSpice(or even just $START, as it'd only be necessary in the context of the Pkgfile, not to pkgmk itself)15:49
frinnstIm not I understand.. whats rong with $SRC ?15:49
frinnstwow, what a failed senence15:49
frinnst:D15:49
jaegerheh15:50
EmoSpicefrinnst: Nothing. It does exactly what it's meant to do - refer to the unpacked source code15:50
EmoSpicethere's no variable referring to "the directory containing the Pkgfile"15:50
EmoSpiceat least, not an official one. $OLDPWD does exist and does reference the original dir (at least before any cd in a Pkgfile's build())15:52
jaegerwhat's the use case for patches that aren't included in source?15:52
EmoSpicethink dwm or dmenu. You could simply drop your patches in $START, and have the Pkgfile patch the source download automatically15:53
EmoSpice(which is exactly what I'm trying to do)15:54
jaegerso you want to rebuild it frequently without tweaking the Pkgfile?15:54
jaegerfor testing features or something?15:54
EmoSpiceWell, yes. The suckless devs rely on patches to contribute additional features to their software, so patching the source is very common there. The idea here would be to allow a user to simply amass a list of patches against a source tree. It might not (well, would not) hold up past the first couple of patches - but it would make exploratory changes pretty simple.15:56
EmoSpiceexporting an additional variable would make hacks like [this](http://mikejsavage.co.uk/crux/dmenu-git/Pkgfile) unnecessary.15:58
