timcowchipdo I need apache to provide localhost so I can connect a printer?22:24
teK___via cups?22:24
timcowchipyes22:24
timcowchipI can open localhost:63122:24
timcowchipbut can't add a printer22:25
teK___doest it require a password?22:25
timcowchipmy browser doesn't ask for a password22:25
timcowchipit just says 'connection reset by peer'22:26
timcowchipI'm in lp and printeradmin22:26
timcowchip'SystemGroup sys root printadmin' is in /etc/cups/cups-files.conf22:27
timcowchip'Listen localhost:631' is in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf22:28
timcowchiphttp://stackoverflow.com/questions/18559140/cannot-connect-to-localhost22:29
jaegerdo you have both printeradmin and printadmin or was one of those a typo?22:29
timcowchipprinteradmin is a typo22:30
teK___how is the user group supposed to influence the availability of the web gui?22:30
teK___you did run /etc/rc.d/cups start?22:31
timcowchipI'm supposed to be able to add a printer without a password22:31
timcowchipaccording to 'https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS#CUPS_administration'22:32
teK___there's something wrong if the web ui does not pop up at all22:32
teK___have a look at your logs22:32
timcowchipok22:32
teK___and I _do_ have to give user and pw when hitting 'add printer'22:32
jaegertcpwrappers?22:32
teK___good point :)22:33
jaegerah, probably not if you can connect to the web ui22:33
teK___(still)22:33
timcowchipConnection from localhost refused by /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny rules.22:33
teK___he can't?22:33
jaegersorry, I'm conflating your responses and his22:33
jaegerI'm tired :P22:33
teK___haha22:34
teK___tcpwrappers probably are the 'issue' at hand22:34
jaegeryes22:34
timcowchip'cupsd : 127.0.0.1 : ALLOW' is in hosts.allow22:35
timcowchipdo I need to use localhost instead of 127.0.0.1?22:36
dxlr8rtcpwrappers need to die :P22:37
teK___nah22:37
teK___but we let them :\22:37
dxlr8rso many hours spent on figuring out why stuff didn't work only to find out it was tcpwrappers all along :P22:37
z3bradammit22:38
z3braat least 2 days22:38
dxlr8rif it was universial it could be nice, but only works on some applications22:39
teK___I'd like our handbook to start with this picture: http://yourseosucks.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/walter-sobchak-entering-a-world-of-pain.jpg22:39
teK___"You are entering a world of pain"22:39
dxlr8rhehe, Crux ain't the Linux experience with most pain22:39
timcowchipdude22:40
dxlr8rnot as painless as ubuntu etc. :P22:40
dxlr8rcups: ALL , should do22:41
dxlr8rI usually do ALL:ALL :P22:41
dxlr8ratleast when testing stuff22:41
timcowchipdxlr8r: that worked, thanks22:43

crash_i wonder if compiling would be pretty fast on my new laptop broadwell cpu i5 5200U? CRUX and compiles on my old laptop was not fun at all.22:50
jaegerdepends on the speed and number of cores22:51
jaeger4 threads (2 cores) @ 2.2 isn't bad22:51
jaegerwhat was in the old laptop?22:51
crash_it has 2 cores and 2 threads so 4 in total i believe. the old one had a amd cpu at 1ghz and 2 cores.22:52
jaegeryeah, should be significantly better than the old one22:52
jaegereven for single-threaded builds22:53
crash_that sounds promising :)22:53
*** Feksclaus has joined #crux22:58
crash_jaeger: but 4 threads + 2 cores does that mean i can use -j6 in pkgmk.conf or do i think it wrong now? or is it just 4 in total so -j5 is better overall :)23:01
jaegeryou can use -j6 if you want but your CPU has 4 threads total23:01
jaeger2 cores * 2 threads each23:01
jaegerso -j6 probably will not be faster than -j4 or -j5 but it depends on the build23:02
onoderateK___: still here ;p? can you please update contrib/feh23:02
onoderathe current release is 2.13.123:02
jaegerif you use more jobs than cores the compiler/make will still work but you may degrade performance rather than help it and load will definitely be higher23:03
jaegerI'd recommend just using -j423:03
cruxbot[contrib.git/3.1]: feh: 2.12 -> 2.13.123:03
onoderathat was fast, ty23:03
crash_jaeger: Thanks :)23:04
jaegernp23:04
crash_nav23:04
crash_haven't touched windows since win723:05
jaegerI installed win10 on my laptop last night to check it out. Nothing important on that laptop so if it breaks anything, no biggie23:05
crash_nice, win10 is just win8.1 but with a start menu?23:06
jaegerat a quick glance it's something like that... supposedly performs better, etc.23:06
onoderaand a whole lot of botnet23:06
crash_i don't that windows 10 is sharing wifi with your "contacts"23:07
crash_*like23:07
teK___http://wurstball.de/static/ircview/pictures/fe2c75d21245ebd63c6e327c4dde8ecc.jpg ;)23:07
teK___related:  < grsecurity> Would be nice to know exactly what's involved in "basic" Win10 telemetry -- not cool at all that it can't be disabled w/o Enterprise upgrade23:08
crash_that looks messy?23:08
teK___works as designed?23:09
crash_maybe :)23:09

joacimi kinda want to upgrade23:23
joacimjust to see, but MS is too damn creepy23:24
joacimnot sure if i can complain since i'm stuck on apple and google products too =)23:24
jaegerI don't mind checking it out on my laptop. Most of the time it's booted into crux anyway23:24
joacimi only boot my windows for games23:24
crash_joacim: your games is not on steam?23:25
joacimmy games are mostly windows games23:25
joacimand steam is also evil :323:25
mechaniputerI'm glad I'd already moved to Linux by the time I was PC gaming. I never bought any windows games as a result.23:25
joacimI do have my Win9x computer without a nic23:26
joacimcan use  that for my games23:26
crash_old dos games :)23:27
joacimit's too fast for those :/23:27
crash_i only play 2 games Crusader kings 2 and Europa universalis 4 :)23:27
joacim700 MHz Pentium III23:27
joacimi'll build up my old socket 7 system when i find a nice baby-AT case and power supply23:28
crash_nice old machines you have :)23:28
crash_i only have obscured hardware like alphas and only "newer" x8623:28
joacimthink i need to recap my motherboard. one bloated capacitor, and i assume the rest will go bad soon (because of abit)23:30
crash_abit motherboards i had some of those, and all failed of bloated capacitor.23:31
joacimmy nf7-s v2.0 is still ok i think23:32
joacimruined the cpu tho =)23:32
crash_they did work good when they worked though23:32
