elderKHey guys, I was wondering if there are any gotchas regarding upgrading from the latest 3.3 install media?01:46
*** ryu0 has quit IRC01:46
elderKI would do a clean install but I don't want to spend an entire day recompiling :P01:46
rmullI went from 3.2 -> 3.3 with no problem. Basically run the setup, update packages from the ISO, reboot, double check your /etc/ports/*, and update/revdep/rejmerge until all looks good01:49
*** ryu0 has joined #crux01:49
elderKSweet. Thanks rmull.01:50

rmullMmmm... not certain, but I don't think it'll remove anything automatically. Might want a second opinion though.02:03
elderKIt'd make sense if it didn't. But I couldn't help but ask out of curiosity. :)02:05

AMDmi3hey; just wanted to drop a note that I've added CRUX support to repology.org (a service which compares package version across many repositories)09:01
AMDmi3http://repology.org/metapackages/outdated-in-repo/crux_33/ - packages outdated in crux 3.3, for instance09:01
timcowchipholy crap that's a lot of outdated packages09:17

*** spcwlz has quit IRC10:28
AMDmi3just_fun: what's `stable version'?10:28
*** spcwlz has joined #crux10:28
just_funfor sources10:29
just_funFor example, rox-filer is 2.10 stable and 2.11 testing - http://rox.sourceforge.net/desktop/ROX-Filer.html10:29
frinnstat-spi2-core is listed as outdated with version 2.22.0. It's the latest stable, 2.23.4 is a development version10:30
frinnsthttps://developer.gnome.org/libatspi/10:30
frinnstprobably very tricky to automate10:30

AMDmi3there are very few projects which separate stable and unstable branches/versions, and yes, it's not possible to automate10:35
just_funwaiting for nutyx, void and linuxbrew :D10:36
AMDmi3also the idea is that if some repo is using specific version, it's likely stable enough to use disregard what developers think of it10:37
AMDmi3for example, https://repology.org/metapackage/rox-filer/versions - everybody are just using "testing" version of rox-filer10:37
frinnstindeed but our "policy" is the latest "stable" version10:37
frinnstin general atleast10:38
AMDmi3just_fun: oh nice, new repository ideas, I've only heard of void10:39
Romsterodd number dev builds can do breaking API changes from one point release to another.10:39

just_fundziq: on a second thought, if you look at the Pkgfile of libreoffice17:45
just_funyou will see that is a binary package17:45
just_funand you can do the same with the kernel, grab it from archlinux or something17:45
just_funput it in boot, and change lilo or grub.cfg (once)17:46
dziqkernel tar.xz is on installation iso17:47
dziqon /media/crux/kernel/linux-4.9.6.tar.xz17:48
just_funI thought you want to update the kernel without recompiling17:49
dziqbut I don't know how to install it, is there any tool to install it17:49
frinnstyou can run "make install" from the kernel source dir, it will copy the kernel to  /boot/vmlinuz and run lilo for you17:49
frinnstif you dont use lilo, it will still copy the kernel to the right place17:49
frinnstit will also rename the old kernel to vmlinuz.old17:50
frinnsti usually run "make -j8 && sudo make modules_install install" when i build & install a new kernel17:51
dziqyes, but it's compilation17:51
dziqnot installation from binary packages17:51
frinnstwhat binary package are you trying to install then?17:52
frinnstanyways, place the kernel image in /boot, make sure your bootloader is configured to load it17:55
frinnstthat should be pretty much it. You will probably also need to place any modules that come with the kernel under /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/17:55
