RomsterSiFuh, i have a cyberpower 1500 had to change the batteries once so far, working fine. but i have noticed 2 issues that i am not happy with.02:46
Romsterwhen the unit is off and mains is still on the screen will flicker a tiny bit, and when the batteires are worn out and pulling down the voltage, the unit got really hot trying to charge the batteries than to shut off with a battery fault. it was that hot i could burn my hand on the case.02:48
Romsterand the batteries were that expanded i had to remove the entire case to get them out02:48
Romsterthinking of adding a thermal sensor to the unit to alert me when that happens again.02:49
Romsteror just add some battery voltage device so i can see when it's below the minimum voltage when it's supposed to be full.02:49
SiFuhRomster: any sparks flying? Twice mine lit up the room with what sounded as an electrical short, and yet continued to run as normal. I was expecting it die but it kept powering on for another year.03:34

SiFuhI have 3 irons.. but none have variable temperature.  The Weller I have I bought in the 90's it died a few months back, and I repaired it with parts from an 80s model weller.14:06
SiFuhfrinnst: It's quite expensive :-)14:07
pedjaI see people recommend something like
SiFuhpedja: I have a Japanese iron too it looses heat rapidly on contact14:08
SiFuhgoot cxr-3114:09
frinnstI grew up with weller. always wanted one since I left school :-)14:09
SiFuhfrinnst: I was the same. First tool I ever bought was a Weller.. Served me well  1994 till 2017 :-)14:10
SiFuhin that time, my dad went through many soldering irons. He always bough cheap 15$ jobs. Mine was $4214:11
frinnstI dont use mine too often. Only have had one project with it - 2xamiga400014:11
frinnstbought mine newyears 201514:11
SiFuhmy 3rd Iron has a tip about 12mm thick I use it for the heavy jobs14:12
frinnstI use my 0,25mm cone for most stuff14:13
frinnstactually, it might be 0,4mm14:14
frinnsthow are cones measured?14:14
SiFuhNo idea  I just look at the tip/heat loss and watts and the size of the job14:15
SiFuhWeller N874 was my first14:15

pedjaMIG welding?14:45
frinnstnah, just regular stuff14:45
frinnstI'm sure I could figure it out but I've never tried14:45
frinnstwould be a nice skill to have14:46
pedjawhat do you mean by 'regular stuff'?14:46
pedjaMIG is as regular as it gets :)14:47
pedjait's not hard to learn, but, as always, takes a lot of practice to do it right14:49
pedjaI worked with a bunch of welders. man, those people can drink :)14:51
*** SiFuh has joined #crux14:52
pedjanever really tried any non-trivial amount of it14:54
pedjabut, if you can solder, you can pick up the basics pretty fast14:56
SiFuhpedja: got disconnected14:57
SiFuhfrinnst: before disconected14:59
SiFuhWeld?  Arch, Tig, Mig, Oxy?14:59
SiFuhI can Arc, Oxy and Plastic weld. I have never even attempted Mig or Tig and have no idea about it.14:59
SiFuhArc is dangerous and a pain in the arse trying to see without flashing your eyes..  Oxy is easy, damned hot but lots of fun.15:00
*** tsaop has quit IRC15:01
frinnstlike i said, i know nothing about it :-)15:02
SiFuhim sure many people would be willing to show/teach for entertainment purposes15:03
pedjacouple of years ago, when one of the bridges was built, they used welding robots for 90+% of welding15:08

fdgjHi, i am on a fresh 3.3 install now.everything ok except: login is not in the chosen locale : for root login i had to type ossk, for startx kaob .in X everything is ok . is there a boot parameter for console-keyboard ? thanks20:43
fdgjsorry startx would be kaokb : (20:48
onoderafdgj: did you do this21:08
frinnstyou also need to set your locale21:13
frinnstI generally put something like: export LANG=en_US.utf8 in my /etc/profile21:14
frinnstsince I use bash21:14

lulzhello, so I've been trying to get audio working in firefox for a couple days now, can't seem to find any solution from google. Sound works, I can 'mpv file.mp3' but no sound in FF. youtube video's play but with no sound. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should be looking into further? tia21:31
onoderalulz: have you installed ffmpeg?21:36
onoderamaybe that's needed, but I'm not sure21:36
frinnstyeah you need ffmpeg21:41
frinnstand if you are using the firefox builds you need pulseaudio21:41
*** henesy has joined #crux21:42
j_vI am currently testing the following patch to firefox port (sounds in ff works good here, only alsa used though):
pedjaif anyone cares, I am using jaeger's pulseaudio port (updated to 11 :) ), not the opt one with upstream FF binary builds21:48
pedjaworks fine21:48
lulzyes ffmpeg installed and pulseaudio, but I don't know how to configure pulse21:49
pedjalulz, if you are using opt/firefox, you don't need pulseaudio, it's built to use alsa21:51
pedjamost people here hate PA with the fire of the 1000 suns :)21:57
frinnstj_v: the only thing that change does is thrown an error if ffmpeg isnt installed during build21:59
pedja'intensity of a thousand white-hot suns' is the proper quote form Shakespeare, iirc22:00
pedjadoesn't FF pick up ffmpeg during build?22:01
frinnstyou dont need to have ffmpeg installed during build22:01
frinnstatleast not when I tested it out last time. granted it was a few versions back22:02
pedjaso it's a run rather than build dependency?22:02
frinnstunless you use j_vs patch22:02
frinnsti'd guess22:03
j_vfrinnst: ah, well, i well have to test official port again and see where i stand22:03
pedjabuilding FF for fun? damn, that's brave22:03
pedjaFF update check is slightly broken, I think. it keeps nagging me to update to 55.0.3 from 56b13, because it's 'newer'22:07
frinnstACTION is rebuilding firefox for fun22:14
pedjaof course you do :)22:14
pedja8c/64Gb of RAM22:15
pedjahow long does it take, 20min?22:15
pedjaI wonder how complicated GNS3 network topography can you get with 64Gb22:19
j_vfrinnst: i had my original package tarball built from the official port hanging around, so was about to test it and my mod back to back22:19
j_vcouldn't find any difference with firefox audio between whether ffmpeg existed at build time or not22:21
pedjaI don't see the point of forcing FF to build with ffmpeg22:21
j_vwrong assumption on my part22:21
pedjaoh, I had a lot of those :)22:21
pedjawith -j8?22:22
frinnstnproc, yeeah22:23
pedjaI guess you use tmpfs for build dir?22:26
pedjaI used it for a while. Only FF broke, it needs 4+Gb of space at linking stage, which is annoying when you only have 4Gb total :)22:30
pedjanow I have 6 (thanks to frinnst), but couldn't be bothered22:31
frinnstI use tmpfs for everything these days. its awesome :D22:33
