rmullI don't think contrib/mpv should print info about optional deps and then sleep for 10 seconds in the Pkgfile. The readme should be sufficient.00:10

Worksteri did that because i got sick of saying prt-get readme mpv06:14
Sitrialias prt=prt-get in .bashrc helps there06:17
Worksteri mean i trimmed the dependencies (because of complaints) so those that don't need optical don't install them. but then others complained in here that they had no optical support06:19
Workstereither way can not win06:19
Worksterso i made it damn obvious06:19

j_vi don't see the big deal with mpv port... it's going to be a pretty personal choice as to what you want compiled in. i fork it locally anyways because my prefs are very specific and it seems to me that my prefs won't be welcome by others. besides, the official one is plenty good jumping off point.17:13
j_vsame as i do for ffmpeg, texlive, libbluray, webkitgtk, xterm and some others. though i do track the official ports to keep versions updated and such17:16
frinnstwhy the need to fork xterm?17:32
john_cephalopodafork(); execvc("/usr/bin/xterm", NULL);     ;)17:35
j_vi've found that when xterm is built in a container with only listed deps, it is quite different operationally than when it's built in general (like for the iso, for example)... doesn't make the iso pkg wrong, but since i always build in containers with only listed deps, it changes some things17:39
j_vbasically, my local xterm fork explicitly adds deps that the iso pkg has built in but not listed in the Pkgfile17:41
j_vso, basically, i see it as my problem and not something worthy of a flyspray task17:43
darfoi use a container to build my ports too but I include all the core ports by default17:51
darfothat way the .footprint reflects the same thing anyone would get after at a fresh install of CRUX17:52
darfo-at17:53
j_vyeah, my base build container has all of core, then adds the deps on top of that, so i think we're talking the same thing18:03
joacim"ANSMANN Premium Batteriebox für 48 AA, AAA und 9V Block Akkus und Batterien"18:03
joacimseems like a strange thing to buy18:03
joacimthe box my batteries comes in is premium enough for me18:04
*** onodera has joined #crux18:04
john_cephalopodaBut it is *premium* and it is German.18:10
joacimwhen i worked in retail, premium meant cheap crap the store made a good margin on18:21
joacimusually store brand stuff was considered premium18:21
frinnstman, btrfs sometimes scares the crap out of me18:21

darfoj_v: i actually use the core ports plus any updates to them since the ISO was built. I'm assuming the user does the ports -u/sysup after the install as recommended in the handbook.19:18
darfobut it sounds like we are doing the same.19:19
j_vdarfo: yep, it sounds like it. you can see how mine works here: https://erebus.in/cgit/cgit.cgi/pkgwrap for the source and https://stygian.me/pkgwrap/ for an overview19:24
j_vi need to update the pkgwrap homepage to reflect the default container backend (which changed from arachsys/containers to google/nsjail)19:27
pedjaI was about to ask if you are using Docker or lxc, and that link answers my question quite nicely :)19:27
j_vi'm also looking into firejail, but so far, i like nsjail's simplicity19:29
pedjainteresting idea19:30
j_vit came about after a time i broke my system because of some stuff i was messing with affected an update of something else and suddenly my system was broken... i wanted a way to have fine grained control over what a port got built against19:32
j_vit's still a wip project, but i've been using it quite some time19:33
pedjaI've looked at nsjail config files. pretty straightforward, afaict.19:36
j_vi think so too, but i still need to explore seccomp-bpf more to truly understand it... i'd like a way to get around the whole 'not able to do mknod' problem inside containers, but i'm still working towards that19:37
j_vfor now, i just use fakeroot inside the container for mknod, and mainly that is just the core/filesystem port (which rarely even needs to be built)19:38
pedjais there a way to generate config files, or at least a basic one, semi-automatically? learning mode of sorts?19:40
j_vthere are some issues with ports like nfs-utils which has sbin/mount.nfs set to -r--s--x--x or something close to that, and inside of a container that will get changed to -r--x--x--x by stripping19:41
pedjahand-crafting the config can be...interesting :)19:41
j_vnot that i've found yet, but that is a good thing to consider... a way to do the config in an automated way19:42
*** tsaop has quit IRC19:42
j_vi'm considering changing the default install of nsjail in my port to be setuid root, so that i can take advantage of the overlayfs possiblities19:43
j_vor i'm missing something is how i've tried to overlays, but i'm fairly sure it isn't possible to do as user without root 'help' (ie, a setuid container app)19:44
j_vfirejail has overlay stuff built in, but it also defaults to installing setuid19:45
darfoI had been using qemu/kvm for my build environment but recently changed to docker at a suggestion from j_aeger.19:48
darfoeach build's pkgfile is stored away for future use so it doesn't take so long to build all the dependencies for, say, a QT-based app19:49
j_vdocker is good too, it is just heavier weight than i wanted initially... also, i kinda like to drift apart from the mainstream a bit... docker and lxc are very mainstream19:50
darfoI tried lxc but found it lacking and wanted to try docker because I never had before19:51
j_vthat bit about storing the pkgfile sounds interesting, but by saving packages, all that needs doing is to install the pkg into the container just before build time19:52
j_vyeah, i mess with lxc for a while... big pain in the butt19:52
darfoyes. speeds things up considerably.19:52
darfoj_aeger recommended docker as lower overhead than qemu/kvm when I was whining how long it took to build qt519:53
j_vno doubt that docker is much lower overhead from qemu/kvm19:54
j_vi hesitated about using docker because it involved a bunch of deps i didn't want... and because i'm twisted screw sometimes who just has to do things the hard way19:55
darfothat is the best way to know what is actually going on. Because I tried to suss out lxc first I understood how much docker was doing for me.19:56
darfobtw nice docs and scripts at those links. Always good to see how someone else solves a problem.19:57
j_vthanks. means a lot.19:58
ryu0darfo: try lxd then. LXD is a "frontend" to it.19:59
darfoi may back down to lxd. docker was a POC. I've been running it in parallel with my qemu/kvm and believe it is viable.20:00
darfodocker is more than I need20:01
ryu0yea, it's the sanctioned method of running Linux environments on Ubuntu nowadays.20:01
darfoACTION adds a TODO item to the list20:02

joacimless than a year21:21
joacimError 3 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 5687 hours (236 days + 23 hours)21:22

joacimkinda silly how there are motherboard that only supports kabylake-x21:27
joacimand others that only supports skylake-x21:27
j_vseems weird to me, but i haven't done a build in a while so haven't been keeping up on recent hardware too much lately21:30
j_vfind it facinating when you guys talk about your new builds, makes me hungry to start planning one... my current personal budget doesn't support that right now, unfortunately21:32
joacimi would be totally fine with an old LGA1366 or LGA2011 system tbh21:33
joacimthose can be pretty cheap these days21:33
j_vwill probably be looking to do a new build this year, maybe when work picks back up. will set aside overtime pay for doing the build in winter months, most likely.21:36
joacimi think that was what i was planning before i got this system. get some old components, or buy an old sun microsystems or hp workstation21:37
