elgejaeger, thank you very much.  `tar --append -f rootfs.tar etc/inittab` DID THE TRICK09:00
john_cephalopodaRomster: qt5 5.12 broke quite a bunch of things in Krita, maybe in other applications, too. Would probably make sense to postpone the update from 5.11 until those bugs are fixed.09:02
TimB_john_cephalopoda: mh, nothing broke over here, what exactly is broken for you?09:10
elgeXEN/PV guest up and running, only thing, there are two anoying warnings09:18
elgedepmod: WARNING: could not open /lib/modules/4.14.40/modules.order: No such file or directory09:18
elgedepmod: WARNING: could not open /lib/modules/4.14.40/modules.builtin: No such file or directory09:18
elgeand this is most probably unrelated to the fact I do xen09:18
elgeoh and I cannot login^^ should I really setup the password manually during install?09:19
john_cephalopodaTimB_: You already updated to 5.12?09:19
TimB_with 5.12.0 initially yes :)09:20
TimB_12.1 right now for I don't know, months now09:20
john_cephalopodaI am hanging around in #krita and they have been cursing about newly introduced qt bugs that break everything for the last days.09:20
TimB_mmmmh I don't use krita, but other qt dependent applications that all work :^09:21
john_cephalopodaI think a lot is related to tablet support, so that might be specific to drawing programs using qt.09:21
TimB_could be it09:21
TimB_they introduced a lot of new stuff for those platforms if i'm not mistaken09:21
TimB_but I needed 5.12.x for rstudio..09:22
*** abenz has joined #crux09:22
john_cephalopodaAh, well. I'll just not update qt5 on my system until that is resolved.09:27
elgeok I had to add `hvc0` to `/etc/securetty`.  We're good!09:37

alandipertis it normal to run into a bunch of update failures after doing `prt-get sysup`?15:51
pedjawhat failures?15:52
alandipertpackages failing to build15:53
pedjacould you be more specific? which packages, what errors15:55
alandiperti installed from the 3.4 live cd a couple days ago, ran sysup last night15:59
pedjarun 'prt-get update' separately for failed ports and paste the errors, they are all mixed up atm16:02
pedjacheck if you have all the deps for mesa3d, libglvnd seems to be missing for it16:03
alandiperti'm particularly worried about the individual failures, i've been able to fix them via adding deps16:03
alandiperterr *not particularly worried16:03
alandipertwhta i want to make sure is that i'm using prt-get properly, and that it's normal for a sysup to result in a little manual update work16:03
pedjait is, when new deps are added or changed. sorry about that :)16:04
pedjaand, if you rather not build rust, there is a firefox-bin port16:05
alandipertno problem - yeah i'm definitely interested in binary packages16:07
alandiperti saw jaeger's updated-iso project, is there any other related machinery for installing precompiled things on an existing system?16:08
pedjathere are a few bin packages16:09
*** onodera has joined #crux16:09
pedjafor larger stuff and nvidia binary driver16:10
pedjalibreoffice, java etc16:10
*** guido_rokepo has quit IRC16:10
alandipertcool, thanks16:14
alandiperttrying to install libglvnd (for mesa3d), i see this: pkgadd: listed file(s) already installed (use -f to ignore and overwrite)16:23
alandipertbut i don't see the files it lists on my system - i haven't used pkgadd before, does it keep a cache/db somewhere that i need to flush?16:24
*** made2591 has joined #crux16:26
pedja'prt-get fsearch file' will tell you which port installed it16:28
pedjaalandipert, are you using nvidia binary driver?16:31
pedjalibglvnd is probably complaining about openGL libraries in usr/lib16:34
Anselmothere is also a file database somewhere16:43
Anselmonever remember the path to it though16:44
Anselmobut you probably shouldnt manually mess with it and 0f is always easier16:44
*** abenz has quit IRC16:55
alandipertpedja thanks I'll try that when I'm back on my machine. Not using Nvidia driver (i915)17:01
pedjaah. it's easier then to switch to liblgvnd :)17:04

alandipertAnselmo thanks for that pointer, i was able to figure out the package the files were from with it. and do a little dance. and now everything is fine :-)19:54

Anselmoax, have you looked at doing like, a pre-install script ?22:10
*** made2591 has quit IRC22:10
Anselmoyou could ofcourse call pip from the Pkgfile, I'm not sure how / whether you could get pip easily to install to the destdir, but I know very little of pip22:10
john_cephalopodaInstalling things via pip in Pkgfiles should be avoided.22:13
john_cephalopodaThere are plenty of people who don't like to use pip in order to have to only worry about one single package manager.22:14
Anselmo^^ ideally of course you should just be able to package things in their own pkgfiles22:15
Anselmobut some things in pip are very badly documented and difficult to find how to actually install in my experience22:16
axjohn_cephalopoda : you're right ... I'll create it by hand from classic pkg. in the meantime, however, I have elsewhere22:23
ax/usr/bin/msgfmt: cannot locate ITS rules for org.freedesktop.UDisks2.policy.in22:24
