lealapsHello everyone! I am trying to push 3.5 docker image to the docker hub: https://github.com/docker-library/official-images/pull/7130 but docker crux images have an issue with empty root password that I am also trying to fix. Just wanted to make sure: if I do it the way Alpine did (https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/blob/dcf72e9c338ef29026e546b40a0ba9b77eb18112/scripts/genrootfs.sh#L44) - passing "!" as root password and locking th12:25
lealapse account will break something I might not be aware about or everything is going to be ok?12:25

pedjacool, it's all open source, hardware too.12:35

jaegernot for me, heh. I hate that layout14:40
jaegerIt's great that it's an option, though14:41
jaegerlealaps: the "official" crux docker image is not load-bearing in any way of which I'm aware so I can't imagine that it would cause any problems. I'd say just make sure it has a readme or something with that noted14:41
lealapsjaeger: ok, thanks14:43

pedjaI had no idea there was this many https://developers.redhat.com/blog/2018/10/22/introduction-to-linux-interfaces-for-virtual-networking/16:21
*** javashin has joined #crux16:23
stenurAnd all does not help if all you have is a wifi interface, since bridge needs something real.16:23
stenurI really stumbled over this, but could work around it.  Took a lot of time, and you will almost not find just about any hint in that clickable toilet.16:24
stenurDidn't that page come up before btw. :)16:24
stenurI really do not get why the heck you need a real interface in a bridge setup.16:25
stenurAnd the funny thing about that was, that just one or two weeks after i tried to do that on CRUX there was a FreeBSD thread on the same topic.16:26
stenurhmm, more or less. I am not a network expert. Changing MACs, whatever. With proxy_arp it works nonetheless. But a regular "vbridge" i would like more.16:32
stenurWell: stop complaining, code it! (Bah.)16:32

stenurThat time-based busy loop Torvalds CRNG init is in 5.4 right?  Still needs 15 seconds until it is done, on my server VM.18:10
ryuostenur: you don't need a real interface in a Linux bridge. i've used virtual ethernet devices before.18:45
stenurryuo: really? How does that work? Needs some "meat" here. (I do not have any eth0 device or so around at all.)18:47
stenurdummy device? Well, i want to have the possibility to use the web in the VMs, do log into them via ssh, and to log into the host from within them.18:49
stenurThe only solution i have found does not go via a bridge (my wlp1s0 cannot be attached), but only via tuntap, ip link $1 up, ip route add $VMADDR dev $1, and echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/$1/proxy_arp.18:51
stenurWhere the $1 is from qemu, net=${net}' -netdev tap,id=net0,script=./.ifup.sh,downscript=./.ifdown.sh,'18:52
stenurand net=${net}'ifname=vm_'${vmname}18:52
stenurand sudo='sudo --preserve-env=VMNAME,VMADDR' runas='-runas vm -chroot .'18:52
stenurand, before, net=, net=$net' -net nic,netdev=net0,macaddr='$vmmac18:53
stenur$vmmac etc. comes from a per-vm starter script, names and IP resolve from a hosts.txt that dnsmasq reads in addition18:54
stenurI have no f...g idea of security implications of proxy_arp.  (For the host system.)18:55
stenurhm, veth, well i had read about that. But i only have so-and-so much time, and it's boring me indeed.18:58
stenurI mean, all i want is that s...y network, and iff i have a device that is actually connected to the internet, i want that to appear "before the bridge", so that all members in that one can now route over that now-connected device.18:59
stenurMaybe because that is my expectation i was only looking for exactly that, and got frustrated that it is so hard to get.19:00
stenurAlso, internet is a terrible source for information.19:00
pedjait's easy to find information on the Internet, separating signal from noise is the hard part :)19:08
pedjaor asking the right question(s)19:09
pedjaa friend of mine admins the openstack cluster for living. he says that the networking part is, by far, the most PITA :)19:13
pedjabut the gig pays well, so19:17
