stenurOh, i truly think they are capable of doing something like this.02:29
stenurHuman life never mattered to them.02:30
stenurAnd other life, even less.02:30
SiFuhYeah, I was looking at the map of the world and Wuhan is like smack dab in the middle of the most populated part of China.02:31
SiFuhHowever, I'd have probably gone and released it in India instead of China02:31

msiismI've read most of the CRUX Handbook during the weekend and I'm still not entirely sure about the relation of binary packages and source-based build-it-yourself things. Is this just like BSD, where there's a base system consisting of binary packages and a ports system on top of that?18:28
jaegerpretty much, yeah18:30
msiismOk, that's better then I thought then. (I was beginning to think the whole thing was just source-based.)18:31
jaegerThe installer installs binary packages built from the ports tree18:32
msiismI see.18:33
msiismOk, I think I should really give this distro a try then. Maybe that will help cure my impresison that more or less als software these days is either broken or abusing its users (or both).18:36
jaegersometimes things break here but not because it was intended :)18:39
msiism:)18:39
msiismAlso, I was wondering about one thing concerning the installation images offered for download. Why are the checksum files not digitally signed?18:42
SiFuhlightest, fastest, easiest, cleanest... In my opinion. If I want to install something and it doesn't exist, it doesn't take much to whip a port. As long as you know how to compile, you can write a port18:42
msiismOk, good to know.18:42
jaegerguess nobody has bothered, really18:43
msiismBut isn't using MD5 (which, I hear, has practically been broken) checksums in an unsigned file a security risk?18:44
jaegermaybe? I dunno, security isn't my focus18:44
msiismMaybe I'll suggest that to the mailing list when I have given the distro a try.18:46
msiismI've also found quite a few spelling and grammar mistakes in the Handbook that I should probably share on the list.18:46
SiFuhmsiism: heh ;-) that is true18:47

SiFuhmsiism: you won't be dissapointed18:51
SiFuhdisappointed18:51
msiismThat sounds encouraging. Will subscribe right on the spot.18:54
SiFuhNo I meant using CRUX18:56
msiismOh, ok :)18:56
msiismWell that's even better then.18:56
jaegerThe ML is fairly low-traffic as it's a small group18:56
jaegerbut it is useful18:57
msiismok, that's nice.18:57
SiFuhmost of us hangout here18:57
rmullmsiism: FYI - you're right about the installation iso not being signed, but the ports are signed if that helps make you feel any better19:20
msiismok, that's good to know. thanks19:20
rmullYou could also build your own ISO from sources if you're paranoid https://crux.nu/Wiki/OfficialISOBuildProcess19:23
msiismOk, well I'm not that paranoid. :)19:51
msiismI mean, I would have to read all those sources then in order not to render that operation more or less useless concerning my paranoia, wouldn't I?19:52
msiismI just stumbled upon the unsigned checksum file because all the major and some not so major distros do it that way. OpenBSD has started doing that as well rather recently.19:53
