jaegerTimB_: not that I recall, no00:13
TimB_jaeger: and i yet haven't found a solution00:17
TimB_says somewhere might be ccache/distcc, can't say that make a difference00:17
TimB_but the pool mounts fine the rebuilt "old" version - must work for tonight :)00:17
jaegerCONFIG_SHELL=/bin/bash fixes it00:19
TimB_let's see00:20
TimB_haven't thought about that00:20
jaegerIt did for me, at least00:20
TimB_indeed it does, dang :D thanks man00:20
TimB_this was bugging me for.. almost a month now and i didn't bother to look into it. but with the cpu swap i was kind of forced to00:21
jaegerjust looked like some familiar stuff I'd seen before00:21
TimB_i should make a list "common offenders" with this in the top line00:21
jaegerI've been meaning to update zfs on my NAS, I'm on 0.7.13 currently00:22
jaegerMaybe a good time to give 0.8.x a try00:22
jaegernice that spl isn't separate anymore00:27
TimB_i haven't looked too much into what else zfs has to offer00:28
TimB_i still need to check why my pool doesn't automount at start for beginners ._.00:28
cruxbot[contrib.git/3.5]: docker: updated to version 19.03.600:29
cruxbot[contrib.git/3.5]: runc: updated to version dc9208a00:29
cruxbot[contrib.git/3.5]: containerd: updated to version 35bd7a500:29
jaegerI use this to mount in rc.local: cd /root; /usr/sbin/zpool import -d /dev/disk/by-id pool000:30
jaegerI do not know why being in /root matters but it did00:30
TimB_mh, ok00:30
jaegerI have not tried to dig into it00:30
TimB_i was under the impression a pool should be detected automagically00:30
TimB_i mean, the module is loaded without me doing anything with zfs after boot00:31
jaegerNot sure, I haven't spent much time figuring that out00:31
TimB_seems like i got another problem00:34
TimB_i prayed an external 4tb drive out of the crappy case and installed it directly. now it doesn't get mounted, telling me that sdX1 is 500 gb big but there is no working filesystem on there00:35
jaegerLooks like my NAS came up just fine with ZFS 0.8.3 and kernel 4.19.9200:36
TimB_he size of this disk is 3,7 TiB (4000787030016 bytes). DOS partition table format cannot be used on drives for volumes larger than 2199023255040 bytes for 512-byte sectors. Use GUID partition table format (GPT).00:36
TimB_ah, i updated to 5.4.21 earlier hoping that might fix the zfs compilation.. i wasn't too sure about how tight they are knit together00:37
TimB_ok so it doesn't read my drive in gpt mode.. why?00:38
jaegerwhat does 'parted -l' or 'fdisk -l' think about it?00:39
TimB_ thats fdisk -l00:39
TimB_talking about sdb100:39
jaegerdisklabel type: dos00:40
jaegernot gpt00:40
TimB_but it got to be gpt00:40
TimB_it's one big partition, the whole drive00:40
jaegerthat's why it shows up wrong00:41
jaegerchange it to gpt and it'll work, I imagine00:41
TimB_i mean, how sure are you? there is no backup of that data yet :) it's what didn't fit on my mirror pool yet00:41
jaegerI'm very sure but that doesn't guarantee I'm correct :D00:42
jaegerYou should definitely back up your data if you don't have one, either way00:42
TimB_i might sit this one out for tomorrow or the day after. i am not feeling like getting the server out again to try and mount it somewhere else00:43
TimB_why would taking it out the case fiddle with that anyway.. ffs00:43
jaegerit wouldn't, this is a formatting issue00:43
TimB_i mean, that drive is maybe.. 2 years old. i am sure i already used gpt then ~.~00:44
jaegerWas it reformatted at all recently?00:44
jaegerdon't know, then, sorry00:45
TimB_no problem00:45
jaegerIt definitely appears to the system as MBR, not GPT00:45
jaegerSo that's what I would change, once the data is safe00:45
TimB_yeah, parted reports the same00:45
jaegerPerhaps the enclosure had a chipset in it doing some funky translation between MBR and GPT00:46
jaegerThat was not uncommon when 4k drives were new00:46
jaegeranyway, afk to get some food00:46
jaegernah, it's a seagate00:47
TimB_maybe <.<00:47
TimB_i didn't destroy it, so i will try to get it in there again first00:47
TimB_otoh, fuck it, getting it out now. can't sleep well if i don't know if the cat is dead00:47
TimB_jaeger: have a good one, thanks00:48
TimB_all good, it's indeed that case doing some funky stuff <.<00:54
TimB_i mean, it's still reported as msdos... whatever, the data is accessible00:54
stenurGood night, and a nice Sunday everybody!01:11

jaegerinteresting indeed01:30
TimB_ah. now that i know it i can handle it :) as long as the data isn't lost01:34
TimB_stenur: good night!01:34

SiFuh57% (114 proof) in 20 litres of vodka. Still have another 34 litres of mash to distill. Not a bad run, but 57% is quite high, going to have to reduce it to 40%.17:52
jaegerwouldn't want to accidentally get any blood in your alcohol stream17:58
SiFuhI actually don't drink vodka very much. For me it is for special occasions.   Beer on the other hands is quite a daily exercise18:00
SiFuhI have noticed mosquitoes 'unstealthily' bouncing off the walls and sliding accross the ground after 'stealthy' stealing my blood.18:01
SiFuhand besides, the vodka is sold in 14 litre batches. I don't keep it.18:02
