SiFuhRomster: I see05:13
SiFuhImagine having to compile qt5 just for fcitx05:13

joacimso bored of all those themes that copy the OS X stoplight buttons13:44
SiFuhI have yet to find a good theme13:55
SiFuhand yes, for me those stop light buttons are aweful13:56
SiFuhRomster: Just spent about 2 hours compiling thunderbird only for it to error that it is missing libnotify13:58
TimB_thank god for ccache? ;p14:00
TimB_or does it depend on rust, like firefox? then sccache14:00
SiFuhit needs rust14:03
SiFuhmight be an idea to add it to dep list14:03
SiFuhWish she'd use mutt but that is too complex for her14:04
TimB_who knows, it still might grow on her ;) i was suprised. when i got my dad an laptop i installed mint for him. after a few days he asked "wait, this isn't windows?" and some weeks later he asked me something like "in thunderbird, to change the background color of this specific screen, it says to change the css value in some file name foo.bar, how do i do that?"14:08
SiFuhheh my father asked me to install linux mint but keep windows. So I gave him a hard disk and installed linux mint. He messed around with it for a few minutes, then back to windows. Two months later messed around with it again and that is the last I ever saw him using it.14:23
TimB_i didn't really gave mine an option on it14:24
TimB_it's either i take care of some form of linux or he has to get help elsewhere :P14:24
TimB_still on mint, never have been needed for any help so far.14:25
SiFuhmy entire family swears they are going linux or unix because of windows 10, and still they are using windows 714:25
TimB_no almost a year later already14:25
TimB_now*14:25
SiFuhI was lucky, I started using linux pretty much the same time I tried windows. My father had windows 95 on his laptop, I was running Caldera on AMD K6-2. I ended up with linux because I felt windows was holding me back. To this day, I am glad with my choice.14:27
TimB_i was born into a household where microsoft products were the unquestioned standard ;) I needed some tries to feel comfortable with it, first time with ubuntu, back in the day where they sent out boxes full of install cds for free when you asked for it14:30
SiFuhLike I was saying before  first PC was an XT, the PC I used in school was Apple III14:42

SiFuhTimB_: so you first distro was Ubuntu?14:54
TimB_SiFuh: i think it was actually SuSe with KDE14:56
TimB_but it didn't stick with me14:56
SiFuhMine was Caldera, then I accidentally killed the MBR and I went to a shop and asked the guy about it. He said, it is gone forever, you have to install new. Wish I knew what I knew now. He ended up selling me Mandrake15:12
SiFuhThen after Mandrake I went SuSE.15:12
TimB_:)15:24
TimB_it didn't take too long until i got introduced to CRUX by somebody that doesn't use it anymore, i believe15:24
SiFuhYeah I went to CRUX after SuSE and then ended up teaching it to the students at Uni in Thailand.15:26
SiFuhThen OpenBSD, Debian, Slackware, Void and now back to CRUX again15:26
SiFuhDebian because I needed something easy and fast to install, because I was going to Kyrgyzstan for work and OpenBSD doesn't support NVIDIA15:27
SiFuhIf NVIDIA was supported, I'd still be using OpenBSD today for my main machine15:28
dlcusaYou young'uns--my first Linux distro was SLS.  ;-)  Of course the first computer I touched as an IBM S/360 Model 22 running DOS.  It was like an Intel 8088 system but in 1972 and needed a small raised-floor room with A/C and three-phase power (computer tech school).16:23
dlcusaWell, a smaller room than most machines in the day.16:25

SiFuhdlcusa: :-P16:39
SiFuhDid you guys have the game pong then?16:39
SiFuhor would it have overloaded your system16:40
jaegerfirst ones for me were slackware 96 (3.1 I think) and red hat 3.0.316:41
jaegergood times16:41
dlcusaNo.  But there was a 3-D tic-tac-toe the used the operator console.  I wasn't the adm, of course, but I became authorized to run it without supervision.16:41
dlcusaIt was only a 7.5-month curriculum.16:43
SiFuhjaeger: the first linux machine I hacked into remotely was slackware ;-)16:44
SiFuhdlcusa: hahaha tic tac toe16:44
dlcusaIt took me I while to figure out how to beat it.16:45
cruxbot[contrib.git/3.5]: openexr: updated to version 2.4.1 and added a patch for FS#178816:45
SiFuhdlcusa: I am not a good gamer. If I can't win, I find a way to modify the binaries to let me win or find the possible cheats16:46
dlcusaI see, Captain Kirk.16:46
SiFuhhaha16:47
ryuodlcusa: what does it cost you to have your files at your current host?16:49
dlcusaIt's complimentary, ryuo.16:49
ryuoSo, free?16:49
ryuoOk, nevermind.16:50
dlcusaryuo, yes.  And the system is at Marist College in New York state.  I'm not the admin of that vm.16:52
dlcusaSome day I hope to make time to port CRUX onto that Z box and hopefully make it available to the student body.16:54
